I'm looking for a good read on Whitetail hunting, something more than tactics and more about deer habits

Get books by Leonard Lee Rue III.

His books are not so much about hunting as they are about deer habits.

The Wensel's have great whitetail books. So does Roger Rothhaar. A real good sleeper is "Bowhunting's Whitetail Masters " by Dan Bertalan. These are great and should keep you busy for a while.

Bobby Worthington just came out with a new book. His book Passionate Quest is the best whitetail hunting book I've read.

"Come November" by Gene Wensel to me is valuable information.

If you're into vintage bowhunting books these two are good reads.

Bowhunting For Deer. By H.R. "Dutch" Wambold. Copy Right: 1964

Bucks and Bows. By Walter Perry. Copy Right: 1953

This has both. I bought it somewhere in the 1980's, and think it is timeless. I've read it many times.
Hunting Rutting Whitetails by Gene Wensel.

Another good one that isn't as well known is "Whitetails" by Dr. Bob Sheppard.

Yep, the Wensel's books and DVDs are great. I have a few.

Roger Rothhaar's two books are excellent.

Both of Roger Rothhaar's books are great, as is anything by the twins. Barry's latest book, The Old Man and the Tree" has really made me think about stand placement and it has become my favorite book on hunting deer. I have read almost all of the books mentioned above and they are definitely worth reading. It's interesting to me to read the different authors and compare their thoughts and techniques. If you read Gene's books, he has changed his thinking over the years and he tells you so and why.

Adding Ron/Rogers book. Really excellent book. The old man and the tree is also a great book.

I was curious to see how many habits do Whitetail's have? I did a search and believe me, you don't have enough time before the season opens to read the list. I think their habits are linked to everything including their location, season, weather etc. Happy Hunting.

I've enjoyed a lot of these books, one that I also liked was Big Bucks the Benoit Way, even though it is based on their gun hunting style, I thought it was interesting from the way they studied the terrain and focused on tracking the deer trying to figure out their movements.

Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

It ain't cheap these days, & I'm glad that I got a copy when it first came out: Stalking & Still-Hunting, The Ground Hunter's Bible     by G Fred Asbell.

But, Darn! I learned alot from that book about ground hunting!
