Will this work to seal the ends of staves?

Yes, it will work but shellac is much cheaper and easier to use.

Any hardware store will have it. I think I saw it at HD too.. Common one seen will be Bullseye.If it starts to thicken up before you use it all, you can thin with denatured alcohol.
