SAM E. STEPHENS

So this is a hunting story...

As many know I've been out of the preverbal loop for a while but all is getting better for the most part. I love to hunt with a bow always have and always will and hunting with my bows has taken me on many adventures over the years. And each time I always want more and more and this has taken me to where I am today , just a regular fellow that can't spend enough time in the woods. I'm ready to retire and just hunt and fish full time but until then I'll enjoy what I can. Anyway I might have a special thing coming up in the near future and if it does y'all will definitely be some of the first to hear about it. For this possible deal I was wanting a new bow and for this bow I could think only of John at JT Traditional Archery. He is not only the man that donated the Hope and Faith bows he is also my friend and the maker of some of the finest bows around. So I called John up and told him I needed to order a new bow and what it was going to be used for , he wouldn't let me pay him for it. He said he would get it made up and shipped out ASAP , you just have to love the Trad community. So the bow I wanted is a takedown , 64in , 44@30 and to say he nailed it would be an understatement for sure. Here is a few pics he had sent me..

This is still a hunting story so check back , I won't drag it out very long..

Really beautiful bow.

John called me up last week and said the bow was finished and he would get it shipped out. When I got home from work on Wednesday it was waiting for me at the post office. Got it home and that night took it over to my buddy Tom's house and put some quiver inserts in it and got to shoot it a little. And it's a shooter very nice in the hand just a pleasure to shoot. I got some arrows shooting good and everything setup how I like it on Thursday. Then headed out to meet up with Tom to do some hunting on Friday , we had some dinner and shot bows for a few hours in a flashlight beam. Me and my new bow seem to be getting along good so up early for a whitetail hunt on Friday morning...
We decided to hunt down on the river , the stand I headed for has a scrape very close and long rub line going right past it. The rut has been slow going in our area but still seeing some going on...

When the sun was coming up a new scrape showed it's self not 10yds from me , this was ok with me...

I've had the bow set up and shooting for a day now and about the time I noticed the scrape just at daylight I also hear deer running my way. And it's a nice buck running a doe , they blow past me from left to right and she held up in a thicket about 60yds away. I grunted a few times with my voice and they both looked my way then she trotted out my way with him right on he tail again. Still not sure what he had horn wise but knew it was enough for me. As they weave in and out of some trees in front of me I draw and anchor and track with him and at about 15yds or so I released a magical shot. The arrow hit him in what I believe to be the holy grail of the vitals. And it was all over in a flash and he was down in 50yds. It was a great moment for me and everything just went right for a change these days. So John I'll do my best with the bow you gifted me it's definitely a shooter..

Fine looking bow takes a great looking buck-doesn't get any better than that. Good to see you back, Sam.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Love it when it all comes together- nice shootin
How is the quiver attached to the bow?

Sure is great to having ya back Sam.  Thanks for the story, pics, & excellent looking bow & buck.  :clapper:  Will that length bow handle a 31" draw?

George Tsoukalas

Great bow with a great ending! Congratulations!

It would seem that you shot a great buck with a bow you had for a grand total of 2 days?  That bow has good mojo!
