How many w/ long draws shoot bows under 60"?

How many of you shoot 29" draws with bows of less than 60"? What kind of bows are they, and what are your feelings on smoothness, finger pinch, and shootability of these bows? I am a recurve shooter, but longbow people feel free to chime in. Thanks, Paul. P.S.- I must shoot very low weight now, because of shoulder. I'd like to know which bows are good performers at very low weights. Thanks.

Oops! Now you've gone and started another Shrew thread! In fact, I have one on order myself. I started with 58" and changed to 60", with Ron's concurrence ... I draw 28-29" depending on the bow. Good luck with the shoulder. I've been there too.

My draw is 29" and I can get to 30" when excited.

I have an old Shakespear 52" 50#@28"

Also have a Bear Grizzly 58" 45#@28"

I have no problems shooting them, but it might have to do with the low poundage.

I draw roght close to that. I shoot a lot of bows under 60"s. The best being a 54" Arroyo, no stack and no pinch out to 31"s. I also shoot a Schafer one-piece that is 60"s. Most bows with a forward handle or static tips will handle a long draw, but I would not consider 29"s long. 30 and above is long to me. Shawn

29" draw, that isn't long.......just got a Shrew 56" Classic Hunter (I draw 32"+). Haven'y really had too much time to really get to know it, but I'm pretty happy with it. Ron/Gregg have a pretty darn good bow if you are wanting the short LB.

Do some searches, lots of discussions here lately...

I'm a Shrew guy too! Whats not to like? 54" LB drawn 30" smooth as butter. They make a 54" recurve that I hear is pretty nice too.

I guess I call 29"+ long because very few people I've met have a draw that long on a recurve or longbow. Most of the guys I know draw 28" or less, often much less. I was just wondering what I could shoot at that kind of draw. I need a 29 3/4" arrow to keep from bumping the broadhead on the shelf. I'm going to be staying at or below 45lbs from now on, which might help me shoot a shorter bow, too. Thanks, Paul.

I shoot a widow PSAV 51 at 28, but I draw just past 29. I guess its around 54 at 29 and I shoot 3 under. No issues, and that's with a 58 inch bow. Shoots great, real hard, no stacking, smooth as glass.

I also shoot a 58" Black Widow at 29" draw with split fingers. It is as smooth and shootable as the longer bows they make. I did notice a little finger pinch at first, but it seemed to fade pretty quick. I really like it...Mike

Robertson Stykbow Gozhawk recurve, 64# @ 29" very smooth. I have also drawn the Black Mountain Sheepeater which is 48 inches long out to 30" and it is also very smooth. That is going to be my next bow, an Obsidian Sheepeater as a 2 peice takedown! Joseph

I draw 29.5" and I have Morrisons, a Dye, and a Welch Dakota that are 58". I've come to prefer 60" as a minimum. Very often you can find a bow that's tollerable in the shorter lengths but I've yet to find one shorter than 58" that held any benefit other than the length. That being said here is what I'd say about the 58"ers I have now.

58" (a/c) Morrison t/d smooth,quick,no pinch.
58" (b/b) Morrison t/d smooth,quick,no pinch,tad more stable that the a riser imho.
58" Dale Dye t/d super smooth,stable,accurate, no pinch,silent.
58" Welch Dakota smooth draw, freakin rocket, no pinch.

Any chance of damaging the bow limbs, long drawing the shorter limbs?

I have been shooting super shrews going on three years now. I draw over 29", bows are 58" 61# @28. I estimate I have shot thousands of arrows (600 gr+) without any issues. I shoot three under.

I got a JK Kanati last month that is 58" and I draw a solid 29"(29 1/2 when I'm good and loose) and have not noticed stack or finger pinch.

I emailed Roger at Black Widow and he says there will be no problems drawing their 58" bow to 29". Not sure about other lengths vs draw as this is my setup...Mike

I draw 29 and a bit and I have a 56 inch Pronghorn takedown on the way. I shot a one-piece for a while and was very happy with the shootability. I like the mass of a takedown a bit better so I sold the one-piece and am anxiously awaiting my TD.

GP SR Swift, 58", and as advertised, very smooth back to 30 with no stacking. The most comfortable short(?) bow that I've shot to date.

Recently traded an original GP one-piece 60" recurve, great grip, very smooth and fast, but I always felt like I was getting up against that dang wall at 30".

Also have an old Browning Wasp, 56", and can feel it stacking at 30".

I'm currently lusting over the idea of a Robertson Vision Falcon T/D recurve at either 58" or 60", anybody have any thoughts or experiences with the shorter Robinson recurves at 30"? Please say yes, they're great at that draw length
