HELP!!!! Is this a good buy???

Hello everyone,

I need some opinions. I have the opportunity to buy a used Bob Lee Signature takedown. It is 45 lbs. and seems to be in great shape. There are no cracks, separations in the laminations, and it does not seem to be losing glass. The price I can get it for is $375. I am not familiar with these bows, but I have heard they are good ones. Any help is greatly appreciated. I need to act fast.

Thanks Rob,

I am only really concerned with the life expectancy of these bows. I don't want to buy something that will not last long. Boy doesn't she shoot like a dream though.

The bows will outlast you if you take care of them.

Any pointers (other than TLC) that I can use to make the bow outlast me? I love the bow and the more I think of it, the more I think I'm gonna buy it. Thanks in advance.

If you have already shot it and really like it then it sounds like it's a keeper.
Like Maxwell said take care of it and it will probably outlast you.

Great poundage to start and you can always find or order new limbs in the future.I have two Lees and a bunch of limbs from 49-61 in recurve and longbow.Kip

Thanks guys. I use Magnus stingers. I hope they'll be OK. Should I sharpen them right out of the package? When I shot the bow, I noticed it did not stack at all. I was amazed!! It was just as smooth as anything. I also have a Martin Savannah, and it doesn't shoot nearly as well as this Bob Lee bow. I imagine that is because it is a handmade bow. I can't imagine that the Savannah is made like the Bob Lee bow I am thinking of purchasing. Thanks again.

So stop thinkin and get to buyin before it's too late!! Heck, for that price you can afford to buy yourself an additional set of limbs for it. Then you'll have two bows for less than the price of a lot of big time custom jobs.

OK, this is my last question....PROMISE. KIP and Mystic, you guys both eluded to the fact that I can use different sets of limbs on this bow. Even though it is used (and I do not know what year it was made), can I still use other limbs. I am not really familiar with takedowns. Can I use new limbs, straight from Bob Lee's website? Or will new limbs hurt the riser? I apologize for having so many questions. I am convinced that I am going to buy the bow now, but with the information that I can put other limbs on, well that just sweetens the deal. Thanks again.

Darren, you should have no problems getting another set of limbs for that bow. Be it recurve or longbow. There should be a serial # somewhere there on the bow. Just contact Bob Lee bows and armed with that info. and what, if any, other info. they request and you should be able to get additional limbs that will fit that bow perfectly. Best to contact them though to be sure.

You can use new limbs, but it is best to send the riser to the Lees and they will custom fit them, no extra charge just the S+H. If it is not a lot older one, the limbs will fit and shoot fine, they just may have a slight cosmetic flaw in how they look on the riser. Shawn

Isn't it amazing? A well made bow such as this, advertised at what I consider to be, a very reasonable price. What an exceptional opportunity to purchase and use a bow that you may decide to keep forever, and if not, never lose money on, except maybe shipping cost, and at a 50% discount. Well, if you think it's what you want, buy it. Just happens to be my advice for the evening edition.

Thanks for all the help and reply guys (and gals?). I now know why traditional archer and this site rules. I hope I can eventually help you all out in some fashion in the future. BTW, I am buying the Bob Lee bow. I think I'm going to win the State of Maine Indoor Championship traditional class with it....Yeah, I guess I'll do that first.
