Someone recently posted about making kid's bows.  I just finished this one for my son, except for sealing it.  It is 54" unstrung and only pulls about  16# at 18".  He thinks it's pretty neat.

very handsome bow and boy.  They will have a great time together.  Great job.  Dave
A bad day of hunting is still far better than a good day at work.

BTW, this is the first bow that I have ever done.  I am in the process of making one for myself.  This one is a simple oak with walnut backing, and the riser is alternating oak and walnut layers.  I thought it came out pretty good for my first.
Also, when I went home to OK for Thanksgiving, I cut a nice 6" boise de arc / osage log.  It is on my garage floor just waiting for me to dive into it.  Its got some nice wide rings and a little built in deflex.  After I finish this bow I'm making, I think I'll see  if I can turn an osage log into a bow.

Ditto Eastern fisher.  Only through encouragement of our youth will our passion remain alive.  :clapper:

I even thought that when this bow becomes too small for him (poundage)I could add another backing layer to increase the poundage.
But, since it is my first, I think I'll just build him a new one and leave that one as is.

Is this made out of typical hardware store grade lumber? I am wondering if you could pass along some build info as i'd like to build a bow just like that for my 4 year old and then one for my 3 year old aswell. Thanks Jason

Yes, it is made from a piece of oak from Lowes.  Look for a good strait grained piece with few or no runouts.  I think it was a 1"X2" when I bought it.  The oak is 1/4" thick all the way out and is backed by walnut that is only about 3/16 thick.  I got the walnut from a friend.  I cut them down to thickness on my bandsaw.  The riser is made of 2 alternating layers of oak and walnut and is 11" long.  The bow is 54" unstrung and 49" ntn strung.  The limbs are just a fraction over 1 1/4 wide at the fade and taper evenly to 1/2 at the nock.  Though you might not see it in the pic, I did put a little wood on the tips as overlays.  Really it was very simple and fun to make and came out nice.  I bet it doesn't weigh half a pound if that.
