That has happened to me.I had one stolen off the back porch of the cabin in Indian Lake,NY.I put the pieces together on that one and found out who stole it.I decided not to get the SPs involved but he is now a "Known Thief" in that small town, sucks to be him.It has happened in my town as well but this victim decided to chain his buck in the open and left it unattended on a busy road.Well guess what? The chain proved ineffective and he was deerjacked and the thief was never caught. In that instance Id say he wasnt too bright but as you posted it seems that it was not visible to all so whoever took it is probably known to you.Keep your eyes and ears open and hopefully itll find its way back to you. That is one of the worst feelings I have ever known, getting a deer stolen.Bout as low as a man can stoop.

That just sucks.    Hopefully they will turn up soon.

The most frightening thing you are likely to encounter in nature is yourself.

Dang that sucks. I hope he shows up. And I hope whoever did it is caught. At least you have some nice pics to pass around.

I shot a 153" this year with a shotgun and have been worried about a similar situation. I've heard horror stories of butcher shops loosing the racks. And Taxidermists too. I worried about it until I took it to the Taxidermist (who I think would have taken good care of it) but I still got the rack back last night. It'll remain in my possesion until he is ready to mount it on the manikin.

Years ago I shot a buck (small forkhorn) during WV bucks only season. I heart shot the deer and it ran. A little bit later I hear three shots real close. I walk dow where the deer ran. Two guys standing over him. They said they had shot it at a full run (in the head) Pefect 30 cal hole in and out of the head My guess is he was on the ground. Anyway he said it wasn't hit at all. I moved his leg and there was the 12 gauge hole perfect shot... I let him have it and figured if he wanted to claim he killed a buck that bad .... One of the reasons I rarely hunt on public land.

Some people just are stupid.

sorry to hear it tracy. Is your garage at or attached to your home? was the rope missing or was it just hanging on something. It has been windy lately. Could it have just blow off where you had it and a dog ran off with it.??

   I just hate a thief.   Hope you get it back.

I will keep an eye open for it; I bet everyone here does too.

Problem is: I doubt any of us would hang out where a creep like the thief does. But he might sell it; and then we have a chance.

Keep something of the buck that can be tested for DNA. That would be the final nail in the coffin for the thief.

It just aint right!  I hope that when the police find the culprit, they give you ten minutes alone with him!

Geno, The rope was gone to and the worst part is the tag was on the horns. That was my fault for not removing it.

Again thanks for the support, This really sucks but there isn't a dang thing I can do about it.I still have the cape for DNA if needed but I hope it dosn't come down to that.I would just like to have him back.

Keep an eye on E B A Y and other auction site on the web.  As a police Officer we have recovered some stolen property that was being sold on auction sites on the web.  Some thieves are not too smart.  some theives might hold onto the rack for a year or two before they try to sell it.

Good luck.
