Im looking for a U.S. made 1 1/2 hp. electric grinder for doing deer, have had a little grinder that did 2-4# minute and just bought a chinese 1.35 hp. grinder from Gander Mt., the motor gets so hot when grinding you cant touch it, ask them if there was a way to lubricate it couldnt tell me, plus it had the wrong owners manual with it, its going back this week...do not want to buy anymore chinese junk, want to stay in the 500-700 price range also.Does anyone know of any that are made in this price range and in the U.S.A....thanks ahead of time//Dean

I bought a smaller grinder from Cabela's a few years ago that I have been very pleased with. In my oinion there is no comparison between Gander Mountain and Cabela's product line.

If bayoulongbowman sells the Lem product I would communicate with him directly. He will not steer you wrong. Mark is well known on this site as a man of integrity.

lem products are made in china.    . I just purchased my second grinder from them. Sold the first. a little small. This one is .35hp #8. I only do a few deer a yr and it is all I need. I threw some big chuncks in and it didnt even slow down.I dont think there is a usa made grinder. If there is I would like to know.I pm you something.

I save on the light bill and use a manual grinder.Plus if you keep him in cookies my 5 year old can grind 20 lbs.an hour, lol.

I have the 1.5 HP model from Cabelas and I love it.  It'll squirt burger out so hard you need to set your pan on the other side of the room.  It was pricey, but it's as dependable as the sun.

I have a Kitchen Aid mixer that JC has also pressed into use as a grinder. You can buy the processing kit to go with it for about $200 and the mixer is around $300. Think of this, you can buy your honey a Kitchen Aid and yourself the kit to go with it! Merry Christmas for both of you!  :D

heydeerman

Miss Kim,

i borrow my moms mixer to do my grinding. A little small meat hole but it gets it done.

Minuteman

If yer spending that much you should go industrial size.
I have a Hobart I inherited from my grandfather , it would grind up a drive shaft!
Don't know if you can even get 'em new anymore.
My 2 cents...
There sure is alot of air around a squirrel...eeyup.

KSdan

I did the Kitchen Aid deal for my wife. . . I use the meat grinder attachment.  Though I don't grind a lot of deer meat (maybe 20-40# a year), I found it works great and served a great family purpose (Christmas gift too!  :) )
If we're not supposed to eat animals ... how come they're made out of meat? ~anon

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

I grind 6-8 deer a year more if friends want some done, Hobarts are flat pricey, 1300.00 for a 1.5 hp. consumer model, probably worth it but dont want to spend that much. Will look at Cabelas and Lems, your probably right not many made in the U.S...THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP AND IF ANYONE ELSE THINKS OF ANOTHER ONE LET ME KNOW...SORRY FOR CAPS.

I have one from Northern Tool. Don't know the hp but   my wife can grind it faster than I can get it off the bone. Done quite a few deer and elk and a few antelope with no complaints.

X-mas present for your wife  a new kitchen aid mixer.
plus a grinder for your self, that's what i did

I've used the kitchen aid with the meat grinder attachment on moose, works great!!!

CheeseHead

I've used the 1-3/4 horse commercial duty from Cableas before.  You don't even need to de-bone the deer, just throw the whole thing in there and in 1.37 seconds you have 100+lbs of burger.    :D

Seriously, it grinds like no tomorrow.

I've got the 1hp grinder from Cabela's--grinds faster than I can feed it and get the bowl emptied.  Heavy duty bugger.
