Hello I'm looking for a few items in wool. I can't buy the sleeping indian stuff too rich for my blood. So what are my choices?? Thanks

Columbia makes a decent wool line that won't break you. Jacket and pants will cost like $180 form Cabelas.

J, I'm over here in Vancouver.  I have the expensive stuff, but actually prefer wool military pants.  I also find pairs of wool dress pants and Pendleton wool shirts at Goodwill for cheap!  Good luck.

I picked up a nice camoflage wool jacket today at Dunn's in Paducah, KY for $69.00.  Regularly $110.00

Fleet Farm had Brent's camo wool bibs on sale this week for $55 and the jacket (unlined hooded) for $45. They are warm and quiet and cheap! I have both. I have a cousin who has been using the same set for about 8 years now.

I have a pair of German military issue wool pants that were CHEAP.  Not camo, but a much denser wool than anything else I've seen, including the high $$$ stuff!

If it's in your way, move it.

Columbia has two kinds of wool clothing, so you might be careful which you buy.  The Columbia Gallatin wool is only 65% wool (recycled wool) and the rest is man-made materials.  I have it and it is very warm, but it is not as warm as real wool when it gets wet.  It is also considerably bulkier.  Their Horn Mesa line of wool is 90% wool and is much better overall, but it can be tricky to find.  You can find it on sale, but usually in odd sizes, plus the camo pattern is not as good as the Gallatin.

I like the looks of that Browning line!

Roadkill

military surplus, not cammo, but much better-made for extended days afield and can be washed by hand.  I you have to go cammo, expect to pay.
I have Korean War vintage green wool for cool days and German military and Swedish  military wool for cold days.  Total investment in three pairs under $50.  Plus I have been using them for 20 years!

I know it is not wool; but Micro Tex from Cabelas is a great alternative.

I've used the same $30 mil surplus wool pants for the past ten years.  When they are dirty (bloody!!!) I throw them in the washer and dryer.  no special settings.  The wool shrinks up a bit the first few times you do that but it makes a tighter weave, more waterproof product.  I love them!!!

Josh , you live right by the Pendleton woolen mills , go to the outlet store and purchase some fabric. Sometimes they have the camo remnants on the shelf as well as some great plaids, ( Pendleton makes the fabric for King of the Mountain as well as several other top name companies). Then get someone to sew it up for you.

Sierra trading post is having good prices on some woolrich stuff today.

Don't really understand the craze for wool.  I got caught up with everybody talking about how great wool is and to be honest unless you get some garment that has a water proof layer and wind breaker layer it really aint nothing special except when it is wet it is 3 times as heavy and takes forever to dry out and a lot of it needs taken to the dry cleaners.  And it also stinks like a pissing billy goat when wet.  I started with the less expensive stuff like columbia, there is a reason it is alot cheaper and it is extremely bulky.  Now the Outfitter stuff from cabelas with the dry plus lining is some good stuff and is extremely warm.  But it is heavy when it rains and don't plan on being real active in it cause you will burn up, but a quick jaunt to the treestand and to sit it is pretty good.  But a layer of silk and polartech and good waterproof wind proof outer layer keeps me as warm as the big wool, doesn't over heat me walking and I can move enough to shoot a bow and climb into a stand.  Before I would spend 200 bucks on some loose woven non water and wind proof wool and Would invest in some good water and wind proof fleece or something less bulky.
