Well me and my brother headed for state land we hunt this morning, I was gonna put him in a tree where I had a blown opportunity on a big buck a couple days prior on the ground in a ghillie.
We got there and the rain started but not to bad, at 7:45 from a long ways off and not in our wind a die started doing that 10 min blow thing where they just disrupt everything and are super annoying about it...yea that. She must have come across where we walked in or something who knows.
Anyways after she left all was quite that fresh rain quite. A little after 9 I caught movement close and to my right (I'm a lefty) at 10 yards a big doe and possibly a BIG fawn or just a yonger doe where coming through I had to really look to see which was the biggest (they wherent that different) It happened fast but she went behind my draw tree my arm came up I hit anchor picked my spot and the arrow was away. The arrow looked great center of the crease but some how the arrow deflected up and took out the back bone. I quickly finished her. That's the second deer in two years that that's happened with and I can't figure out why it keeps happening. This is my first deer with a longbow first with a bow I built and first in nothing but a ghillie.

My set up from the deers point

Nice doe.
From the ground with a bow you made makes that quite a trophy!

Nice job! Don't discount the fact that she likely dropped a little at the shot. They do it quite often, especially at close range, and it's so fast you don't notice it. For this reason, I have started aiming right at the top of the leg, and maybe a 1/2" back. If they don't move, it's a heart shot. If they drop, it's a double lunger.
All lefty, all the time...

Very cool!  There's nothing better than a deer from the ground!

Congrats and thanks for sharing.
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Greg, I'm so excited for you.  I was at a skydiving class a few miles from you when I got the text message.  I knew you'd be pumped!!

Congratulations again.  You're at the pinnacle of what it is to be a bowhunter: making your own bows, and hunting from the ground.  Soon you'll be making your own arrows.
