Tundra Swan

I drew a Tundra Swan permit in NC. I'm thinking about using my longbow. Anybody on here have any experience archery hunting for swan? Any info or points of contact would be appreciated.

We can't hunt them in DE but I watch them a lot. They always seem to frequent the same fields. Geese will bounce around but swans seem to prefer some fields over others for sure. They appear to like to spread out and give each other room.

Are trying to pass shoot one or decoy it?

No info here, but good luck! A tundra swan would be a unique longbow kill!

huge bird, i would think decoy them to the ground and then shoot but thats's my guess.

Contact the NC Biowhunters Club. They have members that have now hunted swan.

Yes. Contact the NCBA, North Carolina Bowhunter's Association. Several members have been successful in swan hunts. They have a facebook page if you do that. You could get quick answers that way.

Joey Buchanan - a member here- has taken one from a pit blind I believe somewhere close to Spot, NC in the OBX many years ago.

I've killed many with a shotgun. My son and I drew tags this year. I considered using my bow but we want to use this hunt for a production. You have a few options. You will have to have decoys. Big goose shells painted white will work. You can wait until they light and shoot them like a turkey or shoot them before they land. Some places you hunt will have a ditch that you hunt from. It's nasty and you will need waders. You'll set decoys on both sides to leave a landing area in the middle. If you are patient you will get a 10 yard or less flying shot as they come in to light or fly by. If there is no ditch then put on a white coat and kneel in the landing area. You should have no trouble getting shots.

Get up with someone from the NCBA and see if they have arranged to go in a group. My guide has hosted archers before but you will probably go with gun hunters and will be relegated to shooting last but as you can see from my first video there is often a flurry of activity after all the gun hunters have tagged.
