For those of you in TX, in the area of Amarillo and Wichita Falls.  When do the deer start to lose their velvet?
Just curious,
thanks

I don't live or hunt that for north, but all the deer in Tx that I have seen rub the velvet off around the middle of September. Every once in a while you will have a few early or a few late.

Killed one in South Texas a couple of years ago in December still in velvet. However he was pretty old, 7.5-8.5 years old

The velvet deer in my avatar was killed on opening day in 2008 (9/27/2008). This was in S.Tx, and is the only buck other than a spike that i have seen in velvet in TX while the season was actually open.
