I drew a mule deer tag on my first try! I'm really excited to have this opportunity and chase mule deer in the mountains of southwest Colorado.

I'm going to do a hunt a long including all my prep for this hunt.

Wish me luck guys

Where abouts will you be chasing them?
Durango area. I think it's unit 74. It's one of the few units that you could draw with 0 preference points and it had a wilderness area in it.

Good luck! Mule deer is on my "to-do" list.

I had a fantasy mule deer hunt in SE Oregon a couple of years ago, last year not so much but still a great time.

Pretty good mule deer hunting a few miles west of Durango.  Make sure you get outside the city limits.   :biglaugh:

Congrads on the draw!  Mule deer are something I plan to hunt one of these days. I am excited for you and will look forward to following this hunt-along!

I've missed before.  A couple times, actually.     ;)   The one shot that haunts my dreams was a miss on an absolutely monster mule deer in Colorado.  I can't approach a mule deer target on a 3D range without replaying the memory of my arrow passing just under the chest of the deer of multiple lifetimes.  The enormous body size combined with my inexperience caused me to seriously underestimate the distance on the wide open and broadside buck. I'll be back!

I missed a monster the same way in 1965 and it's still crystal clear in my mind!

I spent a month "counting trees" in that Durango area (actually closer to Creed) in the summer of 1977.  Beautiful country.

My son and I drew our first ever deer tag this year.  We'll be chasing them in unit 80.

We've seen some monsters in that unit while elk hunting the past 5 years.

Best of luck to you!
