4 - 11 yards, 7 feet off the ground...That sounds like a slam dunk shot opportunity, but then I start realizing that I have never been that close to a bear before.

Sure, I've been practicing that close, but is there really anything you can do to prepare yourself for a bruin encounter that close?  How do you keep calm enough so that you don't pinch the nock off your string and dry fire your bow?

That's what I'm saying!!!

Almost every stand I hunted in the four times I went I could put my bow on the platform of the stand I am only 5"8".When I hunted Barry Wensel'S stand it was about 15'/18' and maybe a couple of others I had to climb up to reach the platform.Have fun guys really wish I had jumped in this year but decided a little late. One hint bring 2-thermacells.Start one when you get in and save the other for about an hour or hour and a half later lite it b/c the first will die out just when the bears are active.Kip

I hung this camera at the Deli on the tree that had the stand in it. I'm 6' and the stand was head high. Had this big guy coming in but nobody ever laid eyes on him for the two weeks, that's a five gallon pail to his right and he's hunkered down in front of a 55 gallon blue plastic barrel. About a 15 foot shot, 6 foot up. That's close!

You guys are going to have a great time......It's a real eye opener to have a bear less than 10 yards when your feet are only 6 foot off the ground. Just be calm and take your time....my bear came in 3 times before I even took the bow off the hook. It was exciting.......

I almost jumped on this last year and now I wish I would have, this sounds like it will be a blast. Is Fred Eichler going this week or will he be there week 1?
