$560 bucks!!! What are your thoughts? Sitting out or paying up? Is it worth it?
I'll be getting some hunting in with some good buddies up in the area otherwise I'm not sure I could have made myself do it.

Funding sources are decreasing for all state G&F.  Went to an hour long lecture by our head human resource guy here with all kinds of charts and graphs.  We the hunters pay for everyones fun and we are dying out.

Wow..that's about $100.00 higher than the last time I hunted there. That was only 3 years ago.

Mike, Evidently you felt it was worth it as you went ahead and put in. I've spent that much to buy an elk tag. Truthfully I live here and we have some good hunting but, that would be more than I would pay to hunt whitetail. Kansas deer are a publicity promotion as far as I'm concerned. I haven't seen the great bucks here for several years since the hunting shows started saying there was a monster around every tree and EHD hit so hard after the severe drought a couple years ago.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I guess if you want to rock and roll you have to pay the band.   :dunno:   I do understand where your coming from...........Hunting out of state can be a shock to the wallet.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Ouch!  I am planning on applying tomorrow eve for my KS tag.  Its worth it to hunt with my friends from KS.

Paul/KS

They raised the cost for residents too. We hunters are a real "cash cow" with plenty of money to spend. ( They think...)
But like ksbowman said, deer herds are down in many areas of the state and have been for the last 2-3 years. Some spots are still holding healthy numbers with some good bucks so it varies.

Ron hit the nail on the head.  I'm to the point where the hunt is what I pay for.  I've spent years acquiring gear and bows and arrows and broadheads etc. Now I use my money to fund hunting adventures.  It's much more rewarding than having 10+ bows.  Money well spent, in this fellows opinion.

If you want to hunt as a non resident almost anywhere you pay the load.

Some places are better and more non res friendly others not so much.

It sure isn't like hunting at home.

I ponied up too. But like said EHD has really hurt the herd where I hunt and the big bucks just aren't there. But I keep going back......

Yeah, that's too steep for me, and my family lives right in the center of the state, and some have farm and pasture land I could hunt! If I was retired and could go hunt as long as I needed, then I might do it, but I use up all my vacation hunting elk and that's not going to change anytime soon so I'll pass and just hunt the deer here in Colorado for five bills less!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

I'm in this year. It will be my first time hunting KS!

I thought I had it rough paying about 260 for North Carolina non resident tags last season! Of course the deer herd here in the mountains is pretty dismal.

Sorry to rich for my tastes.

Hunting used to be a way to make ends meet, something common folk did as a family. Just real hard to justify anymore. 500.00 gets you a quarter of fine beef, that will last two people a year.

Prices are going through the roof here in Kansas...and I dont look for it to get any better. The State is hurting for money so they will make it up any way they can.

Deer herds are suffering without a doubt, but you wot likely hear that from the State nor the TV hunters. Here, blue tounge has hit the deer extremely hard the last 2-3 years. Turkey tags are also up in cost, and fall tag numbers are way down from what it use to be....so apparently they are not doing as well either. Our pheasant, quail, and prairie chickens are hurting  as well...some more then others. I been in Kansas timbers and fields for 45 years, and ive watched as this is all crumbling before my eyes. Not good....

I have been spending my money out of state the last few years, I spend a week in PA with some good friends bow hunting, and have been going to Nebraska for muzzleloader season with my brother.  This year big bro. and I are going to try a Missouri bow hunt and see how that goes.  To me it's money well spent to have the time with good friends and family.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

For whitetails, I have started to hunt at home and just try for a good deer here.

Not a big one behind every tree, but there has been sometime....   :D

Hey Jason, what part of MO are you guys hunting?
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I hunted Iowa for many years (as often as I could get drawn) but when they started shooting up the price, I quit applying.  The hunting was great, but it wasn't worth $500+ for a deer tag and limited hunting time.

My home state of Minnesota is still very non-resident friendly.  Under $200.  Getting harder and harder to find private land to hunt though...like most everywhere else.  We are blessed with lots of public areas and our share of very nice whitetails.

At this point in my life, I wouldn't even consider it.

Since I am not a trophy hunter at this time, I would choose another state whether it be MO, IL, IA, OH, or WI.  I do not know what the NR tags cost at the moment but I know 3 of those listed are under half of what you paid.  Especially for deer hunting, I can get that at home.  I could see if it was something you never get to hunt like Blue Heartabeast.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
