. . . AND a rich, ultra-dark riser, for ultimate contrast. We want this bow to stand out from a distance.

Oh it will be dark for sure, maybe some dark curly maple or cocobolo.

I think the 68" might serve you better with that draw length.
Just my opinion but you really wont know till you try it.

Ok Rik,

I'll play. I'll add a ChiChen riser, with black elk grip, and maybe the Hill broadhead inlay.

Not all bowyers would be able to do the silver inlay, but something special need to be thought of to make this bow stand out from the crowd.

String follow or no, that would be up the the bowyer, as these bows will all have the same bend in the limbs when hungry, er, I mean strung.

Hill and Schultz would likely want to kick my arse if they saw how I shoot, but what matters is that it suits me and I am confident.
take serious heed from ben's statement!

when it comes to "archery form", it's all about consistency and we each need to employ what works best for us and no one else.  amen!

for a true 30" draw length, you will WANT a 70" hill style longbow.  66" is gonna stack on ya, you been warned!  click on the first link in my sig line below ........

That may be, but my 66" HalfBreed feels really good at my 29"+ draw, but I've never been lucky enough to shoot a longer Hill as of yet.........there's always tomorrow though.

Shooting a bow is a martial art.  Like all martial arts, mastering a number of different forms and techniques pays off.  There are big differences between shooting standing, kneeling, sitting, swing arm, set arm, from a tree stand etc. etc. etc...  You must able to adapt.  There is no "my kung fu is better than your kung fu."  As long as the arrow hits where you want - there are no rules.

Rob DiStefano

i can't fathom a "cookie cutter" afl set of spex that would work for everyone, that's a mistake.

there are too many variables and the reason why most of us get a longbow custom made to match our requirements.

however, there are aesthetic aspects that could become a common thread for a "commemorative" type longbow.

to each their own, but with my 29" draw, and  having owned custom 66", 68" and 70" craig built hills, there is no comparison to anything less than 69" for a true 29" draw length.  going back to 66" is like hitting a wall with the way it starts to stack at 28".

I want one with straight grain male yew for the first two back lams and bamboo on the belly lams, myrtle/cocobolo radiused handle and an asymetrical form fitted straight grip.

Rob DiStefano

perhaps a good way to commemorate the fascinating long and winding road this thread has enabled, is a medallion or decal that can be applied to the hill style longbow of your choice, that best reflects the essence of our collective journey.  a charm that bands this nostalgically ragged group of longbowmen, we who best understand the song of the longbow.

for it is not the uniqueness of the bow that matters, it's the symbol that it stands for - long, tall, good in the hands and pleasing to the eyes, proudly proclaiming "i am a true longbow, worthy of your arrows and your hunt - use me well and i shall bend to your bidding".

or some such prose as that.    ;)

I like that Idea Rob.  Now what is the best symbol that would represent all this madness?
