RIK. what I've found with string silencers that I've used is that they make really pretty decorations. I don't notice anything as far as quietness goes.

Here's the question boys. I had my Big 5 stolen out of my truck. I've since replaced it with a Liberty English. Am I still part of the Hill club? I love they way it shoots.

Fireball ... as its a straight limb with a semi reverse riser I'd say yes of course . And what fine bows they are !

Rik, .... "Wankers" .... hahahaha ... by your  next trip out  you'll be local !

with ALL new bows i follow this schedule ...

  • make sure the arrow plate is as thin as possible, rework the handle if need be
  • build a new endless bowstring
  • find out what arrows and nocking point location works best for the bow and me
  • weave in through the bowstring ONCE and overhand tie on four 3" to 4" strands of new zealand wool yarn 14" from both limb nocks - shoot and adjust the silencer locations 'til the bow is optimally quiet on release - when the right spots are found, secure the yarn with string fiber and a few drops of cya to lock in.
my new zealand wool yarn starts off as  bow hush  which a continuous length that's meant to be used to silence recurve strings in the limb string grooves.

I'm really beat, it's been a long day. I left the house this morning to hunt one of the WMA's about an hour away from me. When I was almost there, I realized that my phone was still at home, so I had to stop at Walmart to pick up something to tell the time. I had no idea where it was, so I stopped at the gas station to get directions. Once I had a watch, it was time to go hunting.

I got into an area that showed alot of signs of deer and hogs were traveling. I brought my campchair and sat down. I sat down from 6:45 to 1:30 using my binoculars, but I saw nothing.

After I got packed up, I decided to stalk hunt on the way back to my car. I walked around some different areas hoping to see something.

As I came to a fork in the road, I heard some very loud grunting that was coming from underneath a bunch of palmettoes. The palmettoes was thick and the grass in front was very high.

I set my camp chair down, so I could be dead silent, as I walked closer to the palmettoe bush. Then, I saw this multi-colored beast come out from behind the the palmettoes. It was facing directly towards me about 12yards away. If this shot was gone to happen, I needed to draw slow, but fast enough to make the shot. I brought my Hill bow up, and I pulled back on the string bring the arrow back. At that moment the hog turned to the right, and I loosed the arrow hitting the hog on it's side.

The hog jumped like a broncing bull, running back into the palmettoes. I waited about 10 minutes, then I decided it was time to go searching. I found the hog laying on it's side about 30yards away. It was a complete passthru with my Howard Hill Big 5.

58winters. I've been shooting off and on since it got here. Now I'm working at my boring security job and shooting in the maintenance garage. LOL.  Thanks again. I could not be happier with the way things worked out. (sshhh don't tell my wife, but I think I might like this one more than the big 5). I'm gonna shoot it for another couple days to get my form back to where it needs to be, then I'll bareshaft. Right now I'm still getting broke back in after a couple weeks of limited shooting. Right now the 2020's with 175 up front, are flying like darts fletched. I haven't shot any broadheads yet.

Nice looking trade Don. I have been on the hunt for something a bit lighter to give  a young friend that wants a longbow.  I found a rough looking one that may clean up okay with some serious refinishing work that would work for him, if I don't get out bid again.  My own stock is getting down to the last of my keepers, but they are all too heavy for him.

Rik

WAY TO GO DARREN! Looks like some great eating ahead!

I am a Dacron guy too. It feels natural in my fingers, the other materials feel more like piano wire. I shoot 15-strand and they hold up well on my 75-pound bows.

Ben Maher

Don ... that looks about as sweet as a bow gets !

Nice pig Darren...you have a tough hunting spot, and to kill something with your feet on the ground is great!

I'm a dacron man most of the time....16 strands fits my nocks well.  I've tinkered with ff stuff over the years, seeing if I like it or not, but haven't made the 100% committment.  Something about the quietness of b50 without silencers...
