Anyone shoot a Tembo and how does it compare with the other Hills.

The bottom of the arrow shelf is straight, the side's of the risers have a radius. At the shot the arrow is not on the shelf.

I would like to know also. I've only had 4 and 5 lam Hills.

Now, I seem to recall - and correct me If I'm mistaken - that Craig recommends the Wesley Special for heavier draw weights, and that there is nothing to be gained by having a lighter Wesley Special (the inference being that a Tembo performs better in lighter weights). What say ye?

That is what I have heard as well, that the Tembo performs very well for the lower draws. Just wondering is that myth or not.

I called to order a Wesley Special for my first Hill awhile back.  I wanted it to be 60 pounds at 29".  Craig told me that the I would only see the benefits of the Wesley at the higher draw weights and recommended that I go with the Half Breed at my specs.  I love it and recently got in a Big Five at the same specs.

That's what I been wondering also; most of the bowyers use 3 lams, so does the extra 1 or 2 make a difference.

I have heard that there's a little more speed with each extra lam.

Yep Darren new babies are something else LOL! I have a new job as well that's been keeping me hopping!

As for the Tembo, I like the three lam bows! You get a little extra speed with the extra lams, but the draw feels stiffer to me from the extra glue. The Tembo is my favorite of all the bows in HH archerys lineup.

Well, I have a Tembo, but it was built by John Schultz back about 40 years ago when he was the bowyer for Hill.  It's 52@28" and shoots with any of my "modern" Hills and Hill style longbows.  Tembos are sweet.  My Wesley, incidently, is only 49@28 (marked and ordered at 45@28) but is smooth and plenty quick.  Craig never suggested anything about it not being as suitable for lower weights when I ordered.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Speaking of Tembo's at lower weights, guess what I've got  :jumper:  According to my cell phone record, on Oct. 13th at 3:18 pm, I called Craig and finalized the details on a Tembo. On Oct. 28th at 3:30 pm, the mail lady deivered my bow!! That's 2 weeks, 1 day, and 12mins. after I placed the call. I can't believe they can fill a custom order that fast!! Anyways, I don't know how it would compare with a Wesley at the same specs, but it seems plenty smooth and fast to me.

Specs are: 66", 48lbs.@26". I opted for carmalized bamboo with clear glass. Riser is cocobola with a dark brown laced grip. Grip is straight with a teardrop cross section sized to fit my hand. Shoots like a dream. 520 gr. cedars are smacking the target with authority.

Many thanks to Craig for building so quickly. Also, thanks to RC and Nate for input on what I needed at my draw length.

The bow is gorgeous, perhaps some day I can post some pics.

58WINTERS

I have a Tembo 68" 48 @28 that scales @ that on my scale and a 68" Wesley Sp. 54 @28  that scales @ it's marked weight as well.  Because of shoulder issues it's difficult to make a objective comparison however the Tembo is shooting 530-580 grain 1916 and fir arrows with very good cast.  I'm trying to build back into the heavier bow but don't feel like I've lost much at all. I'm very happy with the Tembo I got off the stock bow inventory at Howard Hill archery.

58WINTERS

There was a 70 Tembo 47@28 white glass that popped up after I ordered mine. It might still be there if anyone is interested.

Molson

Here is a Northern Mist Classic that showed up yesterday. I ordered this one for my son back in January.  It's 68" 50@28 tillered for 26", green glass, shedua riser, and an American Elm core.

Looper

I took my new Cheetah out for a stroll the other day. About 20 minutes after I took this picture, I had a close encounter with a nice 8 point buck. He was at 18 steps, unaware of me, but behind some small saplings, which prevented a shot. The wind swirled on me, and he sneaked away post haste. It was pretty interesting to watch him skulk away. He couldn't figure out where I was, but he definitely smelled me.
