Nice job Knawbone Like the pigskin wrap.Good luck this fall and hope you can score with that special bow.You have the same draw as me.I will be shooting tapered cedars cut 27in with simmons tigersharks giving me a little over a 500gr. arrow.Having a bow like that will make the hunt so much more rewarding.

If anyone is interested here is my Wesley special. It's 64" and was built with a touch of string follow and pulls 61 pounds at my 27 inch draw.

Green, post up some before and after pictures of your Jerry Hill.  That bow came back a winner.

Cy said he is not going to play with me today because I did not bring him over to your house  this morning.

I like the looks of a stitched leather grip, but I prefer the smooth feel of a glued on wrap, so that's what I did. This bow is built to hunt.

Hey Wannabe1, I saw that pic of your Wesley, really liked the looks of that riser, congrats on a fine bow. Those Wesleys' are top dog.

Thanks for the complement on my bow. The finish came out great, too bad it doesn't show up in the pics.

Sorry for the delay on the Jerry Hill Before/After shots.....my good camera went on the fritz.  With some coercion from Magnus, Kenny Yoder (4Runr) graciously agreed to refinish the handle/limbs, and add tip overlays to this old Wildcat so that I could shoot FF strings on her.  I'm extremely pleased with Kenny's work, and hopefully these will turn out okay.

Rob, that bow sure is a looker! Kenny did a great job on the finish and overlays. Thanks for posting up the photos. Sorry to hear about your good camera.

Mike - again, thank you for this - I think I told you that I found the Schulz book, but I'm still hoping to find the HH book (hint to y'all!).
I think I got the Sirocco kinda DIALED in today - it just took using properly spined arrows!  and, I'll probably buy even lighter spined shafts!  Wow!  That bow shoots FLAT with the proper arrow!

Linwood, there are two books written by John Schulz.  Unfortunately, they are both out of print, but can be found for sale from time to time on the web.

The first book was "Hitting 'em Like Howard Hill 1975, reprinted in 1979.  There is also a video he filmed which basically follows the book as far as shooting form goes.  Released on VHS tape and apparently some CD/DVD versions are floating around, but rare.  Both are great resources. Thankfully, the video has been posted on youtube in four parts if you search for John Schultz.  Yes spelled wrong, but that's where you'll find it.

The second book, "Straight Shooting" (2002) is more of a collection of stories about John's hunting and shooting exploits.  Again another great read if you can find a copy.

I was lucky enough to find both in great condition and they are fine additions to my Howard Hill library collection.

Rob,

That JH sure came out nice!!  Is she shooting as good as she looks??
Have a nice day!

She is shooting very well Kevin....the tip overlays and handle/limb refinish was money well spent.  I will probably redo the grip leather to fit the handle and the grooved shelf appropriately, but Kenny's wood/tip work is excellent and has kicked this bow up a notch. Bam!       :bigsmyl:

No problem, Linwood.  I think I said to you before that a lot of folks around here have helped me out tremendously and I do my best to do the same.  Now that doesn't mean that you're getting my copy of Hitting 'em Like Howard. :D   They are out there and if you're patient you'll find one.  If you watch the Schulz video it's very similar to the book.  And it's pretty cool that you had "Straight Shooting" laying around the attic.  It's not a common book.

Glad to hear that you're getting more comfortable with the bow.  What kind of arrows are you shooting out of it?  And remind me again, what's your drawlength?  I like to know what other folks shoot out of bows similar in weight to what I shoot.  Thanks.

I enjoy seeking out old archery books and other archery related items, especially Hill stuff.  Kinda like hunting, but a lazy man's version with a computer   :)   This 1978 Schulz American LongBow Company ad came in the mail yesterday.  The bow pictured in the ad is a spitting image of my "Young Eagle" Schulz bow.  Now I need to find a frame for it.
