Yesterday I jumped a big mountain lion while out shed hunting. He was laying on an old growth stump and had probably been watching me for 5 minutes until I got to within 100 ft...then he baled off and disappeared over the hill.  Also found a few sheds!

Ron - are these all from different areas I'm assuming?  Or do you have that many bucks in a concentrated zone?

Winter range, they come down out of the higher mountains in early November, seek out the doe's during the rut and winter there. They're already moving upslope as the snowline recedes with the warmer weather we've had lately.

I would say that 60 percent of the bucks around here are still carrying. But the competition for finding shed antlers is high. Ya gotta get out early and often to beat the other guys to them. Trespassing laws are completely disregarded during shed season.

40 degree temps are moving in and we have had just a little of the last foot of snow start to melt off.

I had this guy under me late in November. Glad my tag was filled. He is going to be a good one to keep an eye out for.

I need to find the other side before the squirrels do.

X2 on disregard for tresspass laws.  Competition is high in our little state as well.  Good thing we have lots of marsh.  Guys are finding a few but I have the best luck after the second week of March.

Great finds guys....those Blacktails...well I can't get over the beautiful coloration.

It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

Do the whitetail antlers lose their color fast...or do they just NOT get much stain on them to begin with?  Nice looking sheds guys!

The color varies around here but I would say all of the ones I find are considerably lighter then the ones you are finding.

Iv shot and seen some with dark antlers in the fall but if they are on the ground for long it seams to bleach them out pretty quick.

I think it all has to do with what they rub on IMHO

AND another pile of sheds for you!!!!!
Whats your count up to for the year?
