Knowing you have to save up the money to pay for it usually helps.

Shoot, I had to wait two years for enough money to buy an old classic(similar to a bow I started with in '62) so I could get back into traditional archery.  This last year, I bought three old classics.   Made up for the wait.

Too "old" to wait for a new custom. Couldn't do it. But for those of you that have ordered new bows, I agree with the advise about putting a new  orderd bow out of your thoughts and waiting for the surprise.  That was good advise.

I'd like to say that I dont care to wait, so I just make them myself... but it sometimes takes me several months to make a bow start to finish too :^) That's why I keep several going at different stages... always something to do, and always have one about ready to finish.

The older you get and the closer you get to dieing of old age, the faster time goes by. One way to change that perception of time flying by is to order a new bow, that'll slow things down.

Been with Dan Toelke since about when he started as a full time bowyer. I have NEVER had to wait long. The most amazing thing is I know how many bows he and Jared built last year. You would call me a liar if you knew and the wait is still SHORT and I MEAN SHORT. Couple that with the fact they are 100% handmade including grinding his own lams whilst building one of the best if not the best bow around I have no worries about wait times.

I have had a total of 3 customs made for me...one was only a couple months, one was less than a month and one was close to a year...will not wait wait any longer than a few months anymore...just not worth it to me.  YMMV...IMHO, There are enough nice bows out there that don't have long wait times.

In the mean time, I make sure I have other bows on the rack so I can keep busy shooting/hunting.

It took about 3 months for my Stalker Wolverine.  I did the same thing and bought a PSE Talon while I waited just to get a hang of stickbows.  I think he gets um done in about a month right now, but I think it depends on South's wait list and how much hunting he's doing at the time.

The only bows I've bought new are a couple of Blacktails.  About 18 months for each, but well worth the wait.  I will be getting a Silvertip soon, about 10 months for that one.

I would never order a new bow with a wait that long if I didn't have something I liked to shoot in the meantime.  Time goes the slowest right after I order, then I kind of forget about it until I get the call...then the time really drags!

Longest wait I had was about six months for my Caribow Peregrine. I just putted it out of my head, and didn't have any problems with that.
Things got difficult when Abe told me the bow was almost ready and would ship within a few weeks. Then I got nervous and got that itch. Those last weeks were very hard and they seemed to last like ages.

Further, I was lucky being able to buy second hand like new bows exactly in my drawweight, like a Whippenstick Phoenix and a RER Vital.  Being able to test drive them, no waiting time and they only differ 0.5 lbs in draw weight. What are the chances on that???
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

Needed a TD, because I've never owned one. Ordered a Brackenbury Drifter on Friday late because I know the reputation.....

Got it Monday!  New, never used!

Never thought I'd like any bow so well.  Shoots great, and quiet.... put's 'em in the center when I aim in the center - don't when I don't .... fair enough!
