Tried the same when I was in the Corp. Had some orders cut then ended up in Kuwait. Big climate change there. Good luck to ya and enjoy.

Lucky you! Enjoy it and keep us informed of your adventures. I've been trying to get out of Jersey for awhile too, and someday I will. Glad you are making it.

Good luck, Alaska has always been one of the places I  always wanted to go. I hope you enjoy it.

Seems like a lot of unhappy Jersey guys here.  Guys that I know that live and hunt in Jersey say the hunting is pretty good.  No comment about the politics.

Yeah, NJ is everybody's favorite place to leave.Personally I feel the hunting seasons are too long, too much emphasis on total kill, too many young bucks and shed bucks getting killed.

Geographicaly, NW NJ, where I live and have spent most of my life, is a great place. And,being the 7th generation to own and tread on my hunting land makes it tough to leave.

2011 marks the last year I will buy a resident bowhunting license-MT here I come, again. Lived there in the 70's. Liberals are trying to ruin the hunting there too, with wolf re-introduction... but at least the rest of my daily life won't be over-regulated like it is here.

Enough about me, Good Luck in AK Bro, and Thank You for your service.

Good luck! Going to AK is on of my dreams. Hope to read your AK stories soon. Since I live in NJ I make the best of what is here. I enjoy our woods and the time I get to spend in them.

Every state has its perks and pitfalls, like they say at the carnival games "pays your money, takes your choice" NJ does the best with what it has to work with. I agree the state does not have the pristine beauty or the bountiful resources that Alaska has but then again we don't pay 7.00 a gallon for fuel either.(give it time!) Good Luck

I've been to Juneau and New Jersey. I loved Juneau. New Jersey...... not so much! Congrats on the good move.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

Thanks for your service.

Good luck over there!

Hey... If you happen to meet a guy named Rashid could you tell him John Kelley says hi?

Rashid is a rescue swimmer. Last I heard....5-6 years ago he was stationed there.

Thanks

And again good luck!

Well said Recurve50 LBS.  I have lived in NJ all my life.  We have a pretty amazing state here if you are into the outdoors.  This place isn't all refineries and landfills.  There are a lot of deer in North Jersey.  Too many to be quite honest.  That's why we have long seasons and large bag limits.  We have approximately 65 deer management zones here, each tailored to the specific needs of the herd per zone.  Don't get me wrong it's not perfect.  However deer management isn't an exact science and doing it in the most densely populated state in the US makes it all the more difficult.

Thanks for your service and good luck in AK.  I've been there and it's a gorgeous state.  You will love it.  And that's coming from a liberal   :jumper:

Good luck with the move. I hope it's all you want it to be. My brother runs a charter boat out of Ketchikan in late spring, summer and early fall. Then wimps out and moves back to Seattle WA. Hopefully if you run into him it's for good stuff.

Man, I loved living there! Some of my most memorable hunts happened in Southeast Alaska.  Don't let the rain get to you, get the best quality rain gear you can afford and definitely make friends with someone with a boat, or buy one.

If you don't ski, learn.  Eaglecrest is a hidden gem.  If you don't duck/goose hunt, definitely give it a try.

There is enough to do there, besides work, of course, to keep you more than busy.
