I really like Koa in a bow, especially if it has alot of curl in it.

pamike

dalmation ebony is quickly rising to the top and big jim just makes stunning bows.  Do they shoot as good as they look?

going to check out snakebit next....

thanks guys - keep them coming

Ringneck,

I never thought of Koa.  Isn't it pretty hard to come by?  Seems to me I remember something about it being difficult to epoxy due to resins in the wood - or am I thinking of something else?

You have any pictures of a Koa riser?

Yes Pamike, they shoot as good as they look. The Dalmation is not easy to come by though. It's a granal variation of Black/White Ebony. I read that about 10% of the Black/White Ebony is Dalmation. I suppose you could request it when you order the bow, then Jim would put some aside for you if he gets hold of some. Make sure you have a second choice ready though.

The Black/White Ebony is really beautiful as is. There's a couple on Big Jim's slideshow.

Pete, Koa is fairly pricey but pretty. I use it in my knives quite a bit and haven't had any trouble with glue up. It isn't an oily wood. I don't have any pics of a Koa riser. I think Sixy has one on his site   http://www.eaglewingarchery.i8.com/EWTDLBrd.html   .

Ringneck,

Thanks for that link, wow, a pretty bow.  I must be thinking of a different wood that is oily.  I've seen a lot of Koa when I was on Maui - it's all fantastic.
