Just checked the weather, chance of morning showers, clearing off by mid day, cooling off after the cold front pushes thru. Better hunker down tonite though, I'm watching the lite show from my living room. Looks like I'll be able to finish the roof that I'm working on and drag my tail up there.

I shot all the courses last night.
Vendors were still setting back up and drying out.
All is good for the gathering. Soupy yeah, but worth the price of admission.
You want some good foot wear (especially on the blue course).   :campfire:

Saturday was a much better day.  It cleared up and the sun was out most of the day.  It even dried out some of the mud.  The vendor tent was up and going about 9am today.  The normal spot for our Shrew booth was still under some water, so we got another spot slightly up hill where it was just slightly soupy!

Thumbs up to the the Compton folks.

Went to Compton for the first time today and it is freakin' awesome!  The shooting courses were a little wet and muddy but nothing that would bother the serious archer.  Needless to say I am hooked and am looking at trying to afford a lifetime membership to such a great organization.  For those who are on the fence about going you better get there tomorrow or you will have to wait for next year...get on it!

I just got home a couple hours ago. Even with tent falling and the rain everyones spirits were high, folks were happy and kids were having a blast playing in the mud. It was good seeing kids be kids and brought back great memories. The Compton crew has to the one of best group of workers you could ever see. Sat they already had straw on several target lanes to help keep you put of the mud. Great time. Out Door Dan

Would love to see some pics of the courses, vendors, etc., if someone would like to post. As a new trad. archer, this is the first year I've heard of Compton.  I hope to attend next year. Give me a preview.     ;)

Got there on Wednesday and returned today. Pretty much the entire schedule had to change because of the tent coming down with a wicked followup storm on Friday evening.  That was the strongest storm I've ever camped in. Rain extremely strong winds and lightning.  We were able to hear the tornado sirens from one of the nearby towns.  Several tents were lost and my neighbors and I were holding on to our canopies nearly knocking us off our feet.  The tent went down at 3am on Friday morning and many vendors didn't know until sunrise. So many were chipping in to get all the inventory out from under the collapsed tent.  Whips booth was flattened but all the help got his stuff out with little overall damage other than frazzled nerves.  The Berien Springs Sportsmans members and Comptons staff worked wonders to salvage the show.  The vendors stayed later on Friday evening to make up for lost time. Got to shoot many bows and had chosen a Dwyer Dauntless but waited one hour too long to pull the trigger and someone else purchased it.  Also shot The Great Northern Bushbow takedown and thought I had found a wonderful substitute but it was a demo and I would have had to order and I had an itchy finger to get a Fathers Day presnt with the blessing of my wife.  Just as they were closing at 6:15 I decided to pull the trigger on a 62", 57#@28" Baraga Northern Mist longbow with great help from Steve Turay, bowyer and owner.  He has a great new website by the way.  I am a happy man.  Finished up the evening listening to my first campfire chat with Asbell, LeClair and others.  Ron recited his "Lost Creek " poem to end the evening.  As my father often said before he passed, "utterly delightful".  Great time, great new friends.

My wife, daughter and I just got home. We stayed in Saint Joseph and after the storms we were glad we did. My daughter was wore out after all the kids events and shooting one course. Spirits were good even after all the excitement of the weather. Looking forward to next year already. Flint

Dano was just fine the last time I saw him (I had to leave around noon Sat).  The most trouble he had was trying to keep his cigar lit!

Those of us who have been going to different tournaments over the years have seen worse--it almost always rained at the old Howard Hill in Wilsonville, almost always rains at Cloverdale, dang near got blowed away at the TN Classic a few years ago.....the circus tent falling was a new one on me though.

This was my first trip to Comptons, they said the weather was unusually hot and wet, but if at all possible I WILL be back--it was great!

Just got back from Comptons, we had a GREAT time. There was LOTS of mucky stuff, but you could walk around it, for the most part. Sometime after while or tomorrow evening at the latest, I will post some pictures of the courses that we shot. I'm sure that the vendors, had a rough go of it.......there was some damaged merchandise, and a lot more looking going on than buying. I'm sure that the weather both Thursday night and Friday night didn't help with the attendance........BUT........there sure were a LOT of campers. I'll start another thread and post some pictures........later.

Got home a couple of hours ago from Comptons. We had`a blast. We set up our tent on Thursday morning shot the courses actually managed to stay pretty dry Thursday evening. We set up in a great spot so all of our gear stayed dry even through Fridays storm. We`got soaked getting bsck to our tent from the Pavillion but it sure was a great time. I am so glad that we got to attend. Met some awesome folks and can't wait to get back next year!
