After what seemed like a very long time and process I have landed what is to me the best job for me at Fort Laramie, Wyoming for the National Park Service.  I and the family are hoping to settle down in or around Guernsey, not so easy but it will happen.  I am also hoping to catch up with some fellow Trad Gang members local to the area will to show me around.  Now that I will no longer be working for my self I might have some time to actually shoot my bow and make some furniture that I want to make and who knows what else.  The boys have their recurves as well and I am SO looking forward to finding a place to loose some arrows and spend time with the family.  I start April 25, what should I expect for turkeys and such, (too late, just in time and so on).  Thank you folks, Joe

Lots of turkeys along the creeks and river bottoms in that area. Some pretty good whitetail and mulie hunting, too, and you aren't far from the Laramie Peaks, which is great elk hunting if you can draw a permit. And of course, there is always antelope if you get bored with the other species. Ft. Laramie is a cool place; you should have a great time. Welcome to Wyoming!

Welcome to WY Woodworker. I really like that area, have hunted it for turkeys for years now. You missed the draw for that area already. However there are some general tag areas for turkeys in WY. The closest to you will be the Laramie Peak area. It is a checkerboard area as far as national forest and private but birds can be found. If you get a chance to go let me know I will give you an area to check out. I hunt the national guard training area just north of Guernesy State park and there is some bird hunting in the state park but you have to have a limited quota tag for area 4, next year you can draw and dont forget about fall birds. PM me if you need anything and I will try my best to help. Also PM me if you want to know about some upcoming shoots.

You'll not be far from Nebraska. There is some good hunting in the far west, for Mulies, Whitetails, and turkey.. Permits are over the counter and reasonable.

Can't help you on info about your area,since I live and work in Grand Teton N.P.,.Been here 1.5 yrs myself after being exiled to AZ.and N.M. for 7 years for the service.But now we're back up north where a Trad bowmen can walk the hills and coulees with Bent stick and string.We are a rare breed, you and I, in the Park Service,us Trad Bowmen.Everyone looks at me like my shaft is half straight.If you need anything give me a shout. Walk Softly and carry a bent stick,Life is a walk in the woods with lots of Targets of Opportunity.

I don't think he will want to hunt Nebraska after moving to Wyoming. We have those species here, plus a whole bunch more. Elk, whitetails, mulies, turkeys, bear, lions, moose, sheep, bison, Mt goat, and pronghorns for big game. All over the counter except for moose, sheep, goat, bison, and pronghorn. Pronghorn is an easy draw, you can hunt them every year if you apply in the right areas.

I left NE about twenty years ago for the above reasons.

Thank you folks ! And thank you Mudd, just hammering through and making up ground.  I look forward to the move and sunshine.  I will not venturing too far from home my first year there, getting the lay of the land so to speak.  I hope to catch up with some Trad-Gang folks.
