Where can you get and what brand of water base paint do you guy's use for cresting your arrows.
I would like something with easy clean up without the thinner odor. Hobby store, Hardware,?
without buying a gallon or pints. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

True North Arrows makes a very nice water based cresting paint.

Whispering Winds (you can buy from him or 3Rivers-he is a little cheaper) - I have tried several jars of Crestors paint form Hobby Stores and apparently always pick the wrong ones (can't tell what's water and what is not)

Friends call me Pac

Buy mine from hobby area in walmart.  I buy a brand that is in 8oz bottles for general painting.  The name on the bottle is Apple barrel.

The paint I use when I want a metalic look is in the same area.  It's a 2 oz bottle and the name is Folk art.

From my limited experience with cresting these paints have worked fine for me.  If I remember correctly the big bottle was like $2.89 and the small bottle was around $3.

You can buy lots of color variations at hobby stores but make sure you are buying an acrylic line of paint. They sell both. If in doubt read the label on back and see if it can be cleaned up with water.

Whispering Winds by far is the best cresting paint out there.  I have been using it for several years. No odor and water clean up.  You can even brush on a clear coat of Lacquer or dip in gasket lacquer with no problems.

Bought a nice set at Hobby Lobby paints and brushes great price too. (Now it's on.) lol.

When it says "dilute with water" or "clean with water and soap" it is water-based.

I use Whispering Winds and for a HUGE variety of colors there is an art store in town that has colors I have never heard of!

Before Whisper Wings I use to buy white water base paint and I went to the paint store and got small amounts the various pigments and mixed my own colors.

House paints generally come in different bases. White, medium, and deep base are common. Each base has different amounts of white pigment in it and will accept different amounts of tint without affecting the quality of the paint. For instance, deep base has no white tint in it and can accept larger amounts of tint to make deep colors like black, dark brown, dark green, red, navy blue, etc. If you try to add enough red tint to a white base paint to make a rich red paint it will be so overloaded with tint that the ultimate quality of the paint will be affected, it may never cure.
To tell the truth, with the easy availability of craft water-based acrylic paints in so many different colors and for so cheap, I'd go with those.
