Question For Hill guys about hinge system

Well, I'm currently attempting to raise some funds for a Hill style bow blank. I'm thinking somwhere in the 75-80 range, but I don't know if a connection hinge can stand up to that heavy. What say you? And if anyone's got pic's of a 7 lakes finished Hill style blank I'd love something to tide me over until I scrape up the money.

I would say the connextion hinge should be good to well over 180 lbs. To get the most durability from the assembly, a nice tight fitment, and straight tiller to minimize twist will make it last.

Check with Dick in Seattle he has a number of Hills( I want all of them...LOL) and I think he has a hinge and a take down model he had done. He is a member and look him up by Dick in Seattle.Good luck

personally, at that kinda bow weight i don't think the connexion hinge is viable unless the riser is laminated with a very hard wood that's well accented with phenolic, and the back of the bow, where the hinge goes at the riser area, is also beefed up with at least a layer of phenolic or carbon as well.

i have a tembo blank that i'm doing up with a connexion hinge and i purposely went with the strength and hardness of cocobolo for the riser. also, i will not recess the hinge into the bow's back as that will compromise the limb/riser integrity/strength.

The hinge is for light-weight bows.

The sleeves work well for heavier bows. I have three sleeved Hill bows between 75 and 78 pounds.

It's the only take-down system I trust on longbows. I have had three screw-together longbows break on me at full draw.!

They were three-piece bows, but the experiences left an impression on me on what happens when a screw fails to hold and the upper limb of a 75-pound longbow whacks me in the forehead at 185 FPS. OUCH!
