Hi, I may have the chance to buy a takedown Howatt Hunter. I have seen the one piece bows, but have been unable to come up with any information on the takedowns. any information will help.

thanks
alex

To my knowledge Howatt Hunter's only come as one piece bows.  Are you sure it's not a Hatfield takedown?
I find the older I get, the less I used to know!

I don't believe it's a Hunter. It's probably a Hatfield or a Gail Martin. (nut)

I had one called the Howatt TD.  One sweet bow which I only sold because I went lefty.  It was the forerunner of the Martin TD and the Hatfield.  But I preferred it to either of the last two named bows.  The guy I sold it to is still shooting it. Howatt also made the same bow for Doug Kittrege and called it the Backpacker TD, East Side Archery in Chicago called it the Nimrod TD, and Jim Dougherty Archery called it the Alpine TD I think.  All the very same bow just a different name on it for the various shops that sold it.  There should be a lot of them out there but I absolutely never see one for sale.  It had a knurled thumb knob limb bolt that was rounded somewhat on top and no tools were needed to take it apart.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.
