Ive always wore a black top, and either a facemask or black paint on my face while turkey hunting out of a blind! The paints a bit of a pain to get off, but the mask can/has gotten in the way of my eyes before and almost cost me a gobbler! Ive noticed lately alot of tv shows and such that alot of guys dont wear anything on their face! Im looking for what the tradgangers do/recommend! is the facemask/camo needed?

You may want to try cake make up. You can apply it with a sponge in seconds and it comes off pretty easy. Depending on what I am doing, I either wear the makeup or wear a mask.

You had best do something with your face friend. I was hunting in Cairo, GA last year and got busted at about 55 yrds from not painting my face.

For turkeys, absolutely cover your face. In a pop up I use an old black snowmobile face mask. It's very thin (the kind you would wear under a helmet).

For deer, not so much. Usually a 3 day stubble and a brim over the eyes is good enough. I do sit way back in the blind though, as far as I can to stay in the shadows.

Bowwild

I wear a mask unless I'm shooting through the nettting which I don't like to do. The TV guys are mugging for the camera and don't want to cover up their  lovely features.

DeerSpotter

I wear a face mask that is talked about above ,I also wear black gloves on my bow hand .

If you think about it that's the closest thing to that deer ,And when they see that white hand, It's trouble .So I wear really thin black glove.

But the one thing that I have found is a dead giveaway with me is my glasses, The glare just sets them off ,And they are out of there.

So lately I have been taking my classes off ,Fortunately I can still see without them .

I only use burnt cork for camo, easy to put on and not too bad to get off.  A wet washcloth or rag and it's off.  Cheap and easy, some say just like me!

Yes to the burnt cork. But I use baby wipes to remove it.

LONGSTYKES

I use a dark camo/ mesh face mask, works great in or out of a blind.

I like the spandex type face-masks,burnt cork works good,if you use a face mask dont use the baggy lose fitting net masks, there ok for gun hunting but will cause trouble for bowhuners.

Ive got a very thin stretchy mask that is camo on one side and black on the other. I also wear a black long sleeve under my leafy jacket.
This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

Burnt cork for camo is new to me.  Please tell me more.  I always us a face mask but I have a problem of my glasses fogging over in the morning.

Orion

I don't use any head camo inside a blind. Upper body is whatever I happen to have on.  May or may not be camo. I do move slowly and my blind windows are covered with a thin mesh fabric. The birds can't see into the blind unless you leave a window open behind/to the side of you to provide back lighting.  Then they'll pick you out immediately.

All good advice here.  You can safely ignore 90% of the crap you see on Outhouse TV.

When I was hunting in South Africa and sitting in the blinds I did test with and with out face-cover.

What I experienced was that I was detected a couple of times when not using face camo.

I have tested shooting with a face-mask but prefer face-paint because my second anchor-point inflict with the mask and make my accuracy  poorer.

For face-mask I prefer using a wine cork I burn with a lighter, it`s easy to wash of after!

Margly,

I like your idea of drinking enough wine to make camo.

I never thought a face mask was a big deal until a couple years ago while me and my son were hunting a big field together. The birds were coming out in this field at opposite sides of where we sat every morning, so we took both blinds and put one one each side. He sat in one and I sat in the other. From 200 yards away I could see this uncovered face all morning long! He sat at the very back of the darkened blind and I could tell everytime he moved his head. It was like a light bulb in that blind. So yes I wear a black face mask the whole time I'm in the blind.
I got mine from the sportsman's guide. It's black silk and it works real nice and isn't hot.
