ok, I've done a search and have a good idea of the process.  The rsmgear site is particularly helpful...but i think I must be doin' something wrong gluing the spliced piece back onto the quill.  I'm not getting the piece to adhere well.  I pretty sure that up to that point, I have been able to follow the instructions well.  I'm using the bohning quantum xt adhesivce recommneded in the tutorial. Frustrating to say the least.  Any suggestions?

I use fletch tape to set the splice piece back onto the quill.  There will be no mess when using it.

I just did a bunch of them using Duco. Theres no mess if you use the appropriate amount. I like it the best for this application because it gets tacky very quickly, but it takes longer to set. This way you have enough hold to keep it in place but you can make adjustments. Also are you getting a good fit? Somtimes the quill doesn't zip up or you have a tag end on the mebrane that keeps it from seating flush.

Use fletching tape. I just made my first 3 dz. and they turned out great. I followed bard1's splice-a-long in the "how to resources" and it was a great tutorial. Thanks a bunch to bard1.

Thanks for the help.  I'll review the video demonstration more closely tonight and give these suggestions a try.

I've had really good luck with Bohning Fletch-Tite Platinum.  It sets up pretty quick, but gives you enough time to get the barbs to blend/stick together.  I also sand the quills down really fine, and I've had better luck that way.

At least I hope I got it right this time. Must have had a bad case of fumble fingers last time.

I've done them with fletching tape and got good results, but I'm thinking of going back to Loctite 401. I love sticking my fingers together. It also seems to give me a slightly better finish.

Thanks for the extra links.  Somehow, the in search I did I didn't see either of these.  Didn't pursue this much last night due to work schedule (and watching Essential Encounters) but I appreciate the input and hope to finish up the arrows this weekend.

I don't burn or chop feathers,so my question is ---can you do this with pre cut feathers?--Thanks  1Longbow

Yes, but it's hard to get a smooth edge at the top. Try trimming the feathers to shape with scissors and going against the grain. It'll still be a bit rough unless your scissor skills are better than mine.

I had duco on hand so gave that a try and it worked well.  thanks again for all the suggestions.  I'm well on my way to my 1st set of spliced feathers thanks to the help from Trand Gang.
