Forget german 3D shoots: as hunting practice it is totally useless, but the stones in Kirchberg are fun....
Hunting practice is guided by the hunting method you'll use. That means shoot from a treestand, groundblind or from the ground in similar conditions as your hunt will be at hunting distances. Use the same quiver, not a seperate target quiver. Use your hunting quiver and your hunting clothes if feasible. This doesn't need to be camo....
The timing aspect is overlooked by most archers not used to bowhunt. Bad timing can cost you a lot of good shooting possibilities at game. Don't ask me how I know that..
This is best trained with another guy giving you different stories about what happens with your intended target (3D or animal silhouette doesn't matter, but silhouette is cheaper). The narrative will force you to shoot at a specific time.
For example elk hunting: Shots are often under 10 yards in the black timber, but need to happen within seconds, because the elk are moving through. So this is the time for automatic "quick shooting", not time to think.

Tecum-tha, I don't know what to make of your post, but hope that it's part of an inside-joke with an old friend, in which case you'd know his name is Reingruber.

Axel, many thanks for the photos of the shoot.  Looks like a very beautiful place.  And congrats on the win!

Looks like an enjoyable way to spend the day.  Attractive country and nice looking targets.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I know its not best hunting training, but every from of shooting is somehow practice, isnt it? And i wrote in the initial post "in addition to my normal practice". Though those far shots wont happen while hunting, they make those short ones easier for me.

And doesnt the fact that its fun justify it after all?

For those scratching their heads, i know tecum tha from a german forum where my username is "Grubenreiner"...but im no Mr. though    ;)   !

Dang Axel I wish I could have been there.  Still got to tune some arrows to the longbow that I got two weeks ago.  It's killing me I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

After I get of this guard duty I'm going to have to catch up with you and fling some arrows.  Hopefully they don't extend it, Wenesday and Thursday days off don't let me do too much since I don't have a car yet.

saumensch

Blake, ive found several courses round Mannheim and getting a free Wednesday or Thursday wouldnt be a problem for me. I could fetch you with my car and we could go shooting, just pm me when youre ready.
