Looking for ideas on the best map for in my pack that gives all that,s needed in a map ! Ariel , topo , and 3D all while labeling creeks and trails ! I will be hunting Colorado ! Thanks !

check out mytopo.com.  they are a combo of aerial photo with overlayed topo map.  I think you can specify the area covered by the map.

Sounds to me like you may want to think about a couple of different maps. For instance 1 aerial & 1 topo with the overlays you're looking for. Trust me, I make maps for a living & 9 out of 10 people want too many things on 1 sheet of paper... then when they see it they agree it's too cluttered. Just something to think about before you spend some money.

Check out National Geographic maps...get mine at bass pro or rei. They show shadowed 3D, tree cover, trails, and topo.

I like to just use topos. Too much "clutter" for me on the ariels but then again I've used topos all the time for the past 30 yrs.

What hvyhitter said. Just go to the local BLM office, they sell them for like 2 bux.

Contact the Colorado state geological department and you should be able to get topo maps for a small fee. Or download  topo explorer from National Geographic.

For me topo but I am trained to use them and have used them for 25 years. Topomap.com or other custom map making sites are very good as you can have it made to your understanding/liking. But, and I mean but, take heed to the advice of keeping details on one map to a minimum. In the service we use clear overlay sheets that depict different information for the same map; this way allows us to reduce the clutter and keep it readable. Of course this is my two cents.

I just bought a couple maps for my CO elk hunt this fall! i purchased the Rocky Mountain Hunting map of my area(its ok), and i also bought a National Geographic map and i plan on gettin a custom 7.5min topo map thats a little more specific of where we plan on hunting!

Has anyone used Googol Earth & topo.com ? How do they compare ?

I like the Delorme Gazatteers for general map work, but they are large scale and lack the detail that you probably want.  Good starting place though, and fine for navigating.

A little pricey, but You can get it wet, crumple it up, stuff it in your pocket, dump it in the mud, whatever...just throw it in your washing machine and its good as new.

Anyone know of a good source for Tyvek maps?  The one zmonster listed is ooc at the moment.
