I'm going to be traveling to North Carolina next week, and want to check my 56" treadway on as luggage.  I get to finally meet Mike Treadway.

I was thinking of a really heavy carpet tube or Schedule 30 PVC.  I was wondering how much tougher the airlines could be vs. the postal service?

Any thoughts would be good.  I have access to extremely heavy duty cardboad tubing at work, and am woondering if it's worth buying Schedule 30 PVC tubing?

From flying experience over many years I can tell ya the Sch 30 may well be the best way to go.  Have you checked with your carrier about length?  They can really bust your chops on that. Might be worth a call before ya head to the airport.

You know, I may be better off with Postal Service. Other than Mike offered to take weight off for me while I was there.  It is a work trip, so I can expense a "SAMPLE"...    

any issues with declaring it is a wooden Longbow for security purposes?

I have never flown with a  bow but have shipped a few.  That may be your best option especially with the x-tra package cost of airlines.

Oh and dont tell the airline security you can blow stuff up with your mind.

It sounds like it would be funny until you say it. Then its not as funny as it seems until a long, long time after.

I flew from Birlington VT to Atlanta with the 3 rivers rigid bow case (said to be not approved for airlines) back and forth, with no issue

length of the case: 64"

If you can pop it on the "X" acct have at it.  Tape the top on real good.  There should be no problem going through the baggage.....

I think it might be better shipping Postal Service to my hotel at this point, I appreciate all the feedback.

If time, forward via bus in PVC ahead of schedule. I never had bow probs in PVC on an airplane however.

"sporting equiptment" is the best way to classify it   IF asked.  Bows are   NOT firearms and do not have to be declared.  Saying nothing is 99/100 the right thing to do when flying.  No need to start a hassle...
