Does any one use calf hair string groove silencers? What do you think about them? Are they worth the money? Thanks Mike

I second Bow Hush,works great on recurves!

I had the calf hair string silencers from 3R.  Peel and stick.  Worked well for noise, but had trouble keeping the upper one in position (adhesive would slide around.)

So I made my own out of some heavy wool fabric and contact cement.  Works great.  But I think I may switch to the bow hush.

I've tryed both. The bowhush type works better. Get with Terry, he'll set you right up.

Another vote for bow hush.

Some string slap on the curves can be loud due to the wax in the string ends. Rob Lee (Bob's son) told me to soak the last 7-8 inches of the string in mineral spirits for 30 minutes, then pull it out and wipe down with a paper towel or cotton rag to remove the wax. Repeat 2-3 times.  You'll see the string color fade somewhat in the string, but it will be limp and much quieter, because it is softer without the wax. Basicly, it just works, and have had no problems with the flemish loops unraveling. Now just an umph instead of a THUMP.

I've heard someone using 100% wool yarn to wrap aroud the strings where the string slaps the limb and was wondering if you could use jute twine. I have some left over from my old ghillie. I'm intersted in the bow hush also I just like making my trad stuff and trying to learn how. Thanks Mike
