Tatorbones

I just ordered some blemish 5575 nugent blemish for my new bow coming in.

My question is how much am I going to have to put upfront to get good flight out of my 53 pound longbow?
If it is easy where is the fun. That is why I use a stick and string. The only sight I need is with my eyes.

Spectre

Google Stu Miller's Dynamic Spine Calculator, play with that a while to decide how you want to set the arrow up. Its easy, and its pretty fun to do.

I can't ever get them to download properly.

bare shaft test man !  but you would have to put some weight in front , depends on your draw ... between 300 / 400

My draw length is 29", it is a custom longbow from maddogarchery mike. the weight will be 53 pounds at my draw length.

So you already feel I'm going to need like 300-400 up front?

I also have another bow I will shoot these out of and that is a bear grizzly 45#/28". I think they will work great for that bow.

I really want to use them for my longbow though.

Taterbones, what program are you trying to run the calculator in? It needs a spreadsheet program like Excel to run properly---I use OpenOffice, which is a free download.

My GT 5575 are cut to 29.5 and I shoot my ILF recurve @ 49 lbs 200grains and @ 54lbs 175grains.

So I'm guessing you would be at 175 or less if you are @ 30 length.

Igor

Forgot to mention I'm shooting a 8 strand string.

Prairie Drifter

If you keep the dacron string Mike sends w/ the bow, they should work w/ 225-250grs up front @ 30" arrow length

Thank you guys so much, I know if I have a question that stumps me then I can turn to my tradgang friends

I think I'm going to cut them to 30 1/4. Then I will play with front weight. I am having 100 grain brass inserts put in and then well see about weighted tips.

Tatorbones, I could not get the calculator to work either until I downloaded the OpenOffice software, since I did not have Excel. Like Spectre said, OpenOffice is free. You can decline a bunch of commercial stuff that pops up and still get the working part of the program.
I am still deciding about what to do with the results, but it is very easy to put in different combinations to see what the Stu says about them matching your bow specs.

slivrslingr

I wouldn't cut them to a set length before shooting, start full length with the tip weight you want to shoot then trim until they fly perfect.

3arrows

What slivrslingr said, very hard too make a shaft longer.
Believe in nothing,fall for anything

Tatorbones

Very true, if we knew how to do that then we would all have a lot more arrows and money.
