Sometimes its not the animal or location or exotic species we hunt but our dear friends that touch our lives thru bowhunting. The week my first son ,Hayes, was born, i recieved this bow in the mail. It was my buddy's personal bow he grew up hunting with as a young man and he had it just refinished for the occasion of his birth. He also planted some fruit trees  that he thinks will be just about right for my boys to whack a deer under when they can handle the bow weight at his farm. daddy may have to shish ka bob a gobbler with it before then!!

Aim down your arrow because thats where it's going.

Here's the result of a little experiment I did with my hunting partner.  We were clearing a shooting lane from a tree stand, removing dead limbs from high up on a pine tree.  By tossing a rope over the limbs one of us on each end, we could yank on the rope and break the limb off and repeat the process until all the offending branches were removed.  We were on the side of a steep hill.

I wondered what would happen if, when we both yanked on our respective end, one of us let go...Since my partner didn't know about the experiment it was left to me to yell "pull!" then release my end.  You see consequence of this scientific research.

JoeBuck,
You are indeed a lucky man! You're right about hunting friends-the best way to get to know a man is spend time with him at a hunting camp! You certainly must have a great friend in Monty-nice gesture on his part.
I am looking forward to spending our traditional time together in 2 weeks chasing Osceola's! You have stood by me through thick and thin without judgement-thanks.
Gonna try and get a picture of us with gobblers and Swamp Rooters!

Oh yeah-great pics!

Yes it was.  And a great memory.  That heavy snow was rare for us..I cut a sheet in 1/2 that morning..scored it w/ a charred stick from the firplace...cut a head hole in it...and wrapped a belt around myself.  6 does came threw and I smoked the 1st one...which caused them all to run...she tumped over 20 yards from the hit.  The woods calmed down and I could see all the other deer and began bleeting at them.  One of the other large does stepped past the dead doe to walk over sniffing the snow and blood...I smoked her also watching her go down in under 30 yards...one of my fondest bowhunting memories... Awesome story Lowebow!  That memory would stick with anyone for a long time!

There is a deer in this shot if you look for it.  Earliest I was ever done in a morning.

The short version of this story is that I had the fortune to take a nice Javelina right at sunset on the 2005 Texas Sweat Hunt. Curtis Kellar & Charlie Lamb as well as others helped me on the blood trail. When we found her, we also found a surprise that had us all at a loss for words:

Look above her head, midway along the nose on the ground.

Close up:

I still have the stonepoint and always will. I also still get chills thinking about it all.
