I plan on doing a little bow fishing this spring down South.  In thinking of what bow to use, I decided I needed to take an old clunker that could take some abuse and not bring tears to my eyes with a few lumps & dings.  

I have quite a few bows with some being "Garage Clunkers"...mostly Red Wing Hunters.  The early  sticker Red Wing Hunters were quite spectacular with their tiny tips and beautiful rosewood.  The next generation of silk screen Hunters were plainer but still shot very well...with the exception that they now were becoming beefier/over built to counter act breakage problems and twisted limbs.  Then Bob Lee sold to Head Ski & finally to AMF.  Those hunters I personally don't care for.

Back to redesigning the RWH.  I decided to take a Garage Clunker to Aiken, SC as my fishing bow.  It shot well but the riser was so chunky that I knew she needed to be put on a diet.  Off to my knife grinder.  Not sure the pictures will really show how much wood I took off but with a 36 grit belt running...chips were flying.  She now feels more like a Toelke/Griffin grip     Doc

It's still a clunker only now it fits my hand. I narrowed and slightly radius the arrow shelf so my hand is right under the arrow now.

Files will work fine as they allow you to go slowly.  My 36 grit belt did the job in about 15 minutes...course I'm lucky having 220 & 400 grit flexable belts to smooth everthing out quickly too  

Looks more comfortable Jeff. You took a fair bit of wood off. Like the way you dropped the heel.

Nice work on the grip Jeff! Looks like a good fit and lower heel for us LB shooters. That should make a fine fish bow. There are a lot of good old "clunkers" out there waiting to be put back afield.

Mudd,  Actually they are my wife's horses...so I'm only allowed to use suction cup arrows from a 5# bow     We have a small horse farm in Aiken so my wife can get away from the cold & snow while I'm left in Boston shoveling all this white
stuff.    

And we got some WHITE STUFF this year for sure... Headed south in the am Jeff.
You going to the White Mountain shoot the end of Feb?
