I found this book yeaterday while looking through some things in my "hunting room". It belonged to my dad. It was written by George Laycock and Erwin Bauer in 1965. I've never heard of them. Don't know if they were famous archers or not. The book covers everything from setup, technique, practice, shooting games and hunting. Thought I'd share this.

Always fun to look back and see how we've changed through the years. Never heard of them either, but they both wrote several books on hunting and outdoor activities back in the 60's. But Its always fun to find a treasure.

haha ... The guy standing up in the pirogue has some cahones. I don't think I'd ever stand up in mine.

George Laycock and Erwin Bauer were very well respected writers back in the 60's and 70's.  I read everything I could find by them as I was getting into bowhunting.

I'm glad I posted this here. I knew someone would have knowledge of this book. Also thanks to Bjorn for the bow recognition.

Good find, I like reading all those old books.

Not a pirogue, that's what we used to call a "sneak box" - used by duck hunters.  Little freeboard, wide and pretty flat on the bottom so they're stable . . . until it goes over all at once.  

 

I had a copy of that way back when. The boat looks like a "Folboat".  It was a collapsable kayak with a wooden frame and rubberized canvas skin.  You took the frame, unfolded it and somehow pushed it into the skin in two halves and connected them.  George Laycock and Erwin Bauer were a couple of outdoor writers, not famouse archers by any means.  They wrote about everything outdoors.

Man, I LOVE vintage stuff. Even when I was a kid, I loved going through my Dad's Herters catalogs even though they were out of business.  To see and read what used to be the modern way is just awesome. Thanks for posting, love it!

75 cents, that was prolly an hour's wage back then.

I found the "ABC's of Archery" a couple of months ago at salvation army for 10 cents. It is VG condition. I thought it was a good read and I learned a few things to boot. Nice find by the way.

I was 15 in 1965 and had my first summer job at 95 cents per hour. I remember Erwin Bauer. He wrote a lot of outdoor articles.

Bauer and Laycock were major outdoor writers in those years. I didn't remember them writing archery stuff, however. Erwin A. Bauer did a lot of wildlife photography back in the day; I have a couple of his old 'how to' photo books.

That book was one of six I took with me to Viet Nam in 1967. Talk about showing your age.
