I've always used a dip tube to apply poly finishes to arrows, but while working on cabinets I'm blding for my basement man cave, I bought some wipe-on poly to finish the face frames with, instead of spraying it.

I was wondering if anyone uses the wipe-o for doing arrows. Seems to me it would be much easier, not having to catch the drips from dipping arrows.

Here ya go. I think Rob uses it exclusively for his woodies. I've also started using the wipe on. It's almost TOO easy!!

Yaa it works great and is easy.I like to use a cotton T-shirt cut into small squares for applying it.

Used it on my first 4 dozen when I was using woods.  I'm planning to try woods again, though it's hard at my light weight, and plan to use it again.  Have used it on quite a few bows, too.

I've used Min-Wax wipe on Poly on almost everything .Its the only thing I now use on wooden arrows.Its is so easy and stands up great!

Rob D. got me on the wipe on poly and I will never dip again.It's faster and less hassle.

Yep, it's all I've used for cedars for the past 4-5 years. It's also a good choice for refinishing bows. My only critisism is that it's a little soft as bow finish but looks super and is easy to re-coat.

Easily is applied to the arrow but the only drawback i have seen is at the 3d range.  It seems to melt in the target when you shoot it and is really hard sometimes to get out

for me, i'll only used the resin based wipe-on.  tried the water based and hated it.

Wipe on and buff w/ steel wool between apps is all I've ever used.

I wipe on the plain old MinWax polyurethane.  It's cheaper and works great.

I use the wipe on poly, and fletch tape also.  It works well, the fletch tape stick well,and holds up well.  

(I had an arrow spend the winter stuck in a vine maple here in the wet side of Oregon.  The feathers were shot but were still stuck to the shaft.  The finish held up well.  I re-fletched it and still shoot it.

Sweet, thanks all for the comments. GUess I wont have to worry about knocking over my dip tube rack anymore.

NEver did care for dipping, I switched to using spray paint for crowning arrows, so this sounds like the way to go

I read something on the web that described finishing furniture by wiping on poly using a sponge.  It works great so now I use it on my arrows.  Small piece of sponge.  

I also spray my crown and then poly over it with a sponge to protect.  I use minwax helmsman spar urethane.  It gives a bit of a yellow tinge over the white crest.

The first time I tried making wooden arrows I used dip tubes. What a mess. Caused me to stop making wood arrows. This sounds like a much better way. I've finished a lot of furniture with the wipe on Minwax. Sand, wipe-on, dry, steel wool, repeat the process. 3 coats on furniture and I'm done. I use the sponge brushes on furniture.
