is it alright to have a bow that isnt FF and use a padded FF string on it???

most people will tell you not to use a FF string on a non FF bow, that being said, I have a couple of my non FF bows that have FF string on them and have yet to develop any problems. There are a few of us that shoot bows that way some have been doing it for years.

There has been a few guys that have done that with out any problems,I think a longbow can hold up better then a recurve.

you can do it but at the risk of damaging your bow and voiding the warranty.

For me its not worth the risk
just shoot a non FF string

I shoot padded FF on older bows ,but i always shoot 10 to 13 grains per pound.no problems but my choice. should always check out the tips and string grooves for smoothness. i've seen bows and non ff strings fail because of poor string ad rough grooves,

I never have taken the risk, and don't plan to.  But like already alluded to, weight of arrow, draw length, draw weight, all come into play...

Type of bow, model, make, etc, etc?

Speed? How light an arrow, in physical weight?

Did it for 15 years no problems.Now i use skinny strings no problems yet.Not recommending,just reporting.

frank i just wanted to experiment with it and so far its working very well but my bow is a pse talon dont know the year but it works and i have been told that it was originally made for FF so thanks

How do you pad the strings?

Mike, to pad the loops, you just need to add extra strands to each bundle. In this case a flemish string. For an endless you lay on extra strands in the loop area, then serve the loop.

For an example, on say a 12 strand Fast Flight, 2 bundle or ply, add 4 extra strands to each bundle, ply, for a total of 8. This brings the string to 20 strands, in the loops.

Some folks use dacron, and some use the same F.F. for the padding. Hope this helps!
