I can't recall that one. But the best one I ever read was by Len Cardinale. Article was titled "Feel the Heat". Walking a brown bear trail along a salmon stream thru head hi willows. Visibility about 6 ft. Bear tracks the size of turkey platters. Len says "Every time I would stop the barrel of the  guides 375 H&H was laid on my shoulder with the muzzle about a foot in front of my nose." Well you get the picture.

Side note;

When Monty got back from his hunt, he called me and we talked about scoring it. He said he wasn't going to enter it in the P&Y record book because he didn't feel worthy enough to knock Fred Bear out of the top spot. I had to tell him that Jack Frost had already done that and that he should enter it.

THAT'S how much attention Monty pays to stuff like that. Heckuva man that Browning.

I heard him tell it at Cloverdale.That was maybe 5 or 6 years ago.A story like that stays with you.
I remember someone asked him what it was like to have hunted so many places,and experienced so much.He started his answer off with "I'm just a tree trimmer".

Absolutely one of THE best stories I've ever read, then heard when he told it at the NYB banquet.

Monty is an awesome guy    :notworthy:

Monty is at the top of the list for gentlemen and storytellers. He told that story at a seminar at the UBM several years ago. He is the best. I think he will be our guest speaker for the 25th anniversary of UBM.

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Browning a few years back when he came to speak in Louisville.  He took me up on the invitation to join me and a few others at my house for a great Greek meal my wife prepared.  We laughed and were awed by his story telling all thru dinner.  A few weeks after his visit my wife and I received a wonderful hand written letter from Monty thaning us for a wonderful night and the hospitality....  I've received Thank You cards and such for hosting dinners before, but never a full page, hand written letter.  That is the type of man he is...He left a lasting impression on my family.

Joey! Browning? With a computer?

HHAHAHhHAhhahhHh...now that's funny!

Another quick story;

At PBS Banquet in Charlotte he donated one of his solid fiberglass hunting arrows for silent auction. I bid upwards of $600 for it but as I was working the banquet, it closed before I could get back to the bid sheet.

Later that evening, Monty thanked me for running up the bid on his arrow. He thouht it odd that I would bid on one of his arrows because Joey and I have both returned his lost arrows from mmmmmmisses on the 3d course.
I said; "THE arrow that killed the world record bear! I wasn't running he bid up! I wanted it!"
Bemusedly he told me that, that wasn't THE arrow. Just AN arrow.

A week later I got a long, skinny package in the mail from Browning. Yep. It was THE arrow that he killed the bear with. Inscribed with the date and his signature along with a handwritten note that said if I ever tired of having it, that I use it somehow, for the betterment of bowhunting.

You can't make this stuff up folks........

You need to kill a deer with that arrow Biggie!
Aim down your arrow because thats where it's going.

I also wanted that arrow Biggie I was out of the running very early though.Come to think about it that was my last banquet.I need to get to Portland.

My financial position is better now though so the next time one of Mr brownings arrows comes around I'll be ready.I only met him breafly and he did seem like a very genuine guy.
