I am a scoutmaster in mid-Michigan.  One of the dads of one of the boys in my troop returned from a hunting trip out west and brought us an osage log about six feet long and 8-10 inches in diameter.  My thank you is to Bruce Bitterman and his son Brian for coming to our troop meeting and showing the boys how to split the log into proper staves.  We will end up with 12 bow staves when drying is done!  What a generous act to help our scouts like that!!!  Thanks!

That is so cool. Gang people are good people! Or Good trad people migrate to Gang?  :)
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

That'll be a good experience for the boys when the time comes.  Something they'll not soon forget.

Excellent,I love this kind of story.
An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

:clapper:   To you as well wulomac for working with those young men.  Fellow Scouter here.  Make sure you post some pics when they get started on those bows, we are talking about building some board bows with our Troop as well.

The wood was pretty wet.  It will definitely take some time to dry.  Coated with glue & will get the bark stripped shortly.

We may actually buy some staves and start the boys making bows sooner!
