Im planning on shooting Ace broadheads for my first elk hunt this year, but ive heard alot about Ashby claiming non smooth ferrules reduce penetration! ive shot deer with ace heads, and have achieved passthroughs with them, so how much "Lack of Penetration" are we eally talking about?

i dont think it would be much. i think everyone is desprately trying to get the most penatration possible with there set ups. i guess every little bit helps.

"SHOOT STRAIT" - something im still working twards

I suppose, and thats a good thing! I know ive heard of guys shooting hogs with them!

I'm sure Jason Wesbrock will be along shortly. He seems to have killed plenty of critters with Ace Standards...

They wont work at all, simply a small game head!! If you think Elk and Moose are small game. Tune sharpen and hunt.... think no more about it.

Im not worried at all, i just read alot of horror stories on here about lost elk and poor penetration on them! They obviously arent the familiar whitetails im used to! I believe i have a good setup(#55 longbow with 680gr arrows/165gr Ace Express heads)! When the time comes i just dont want an equipment issue! Never hunted aything that big with a bow, a big black bear must be a softy comared to an elk, cuz ive killed some with way lesser setups than my current one!!!

Elk are very tough. Although large animals I do not find it their physical attributes but an extreme mental toughness. The just do not give up unless you make them. You do that by hitting em right. Good luck, your setup should put two holes in any bull.
