Which one do YOU shoot more accurtely, a longbow or recurve?

For me it is really all about the grip.I tend to shoot a medium, small throat grip, the best. Limb shape does not seem to matter, so it seems.I am not much on bow design, would think I also shoot bows that are designed for accuracy better than those designed for speed. Perfect form is very hard to attain for every shot My two cents, thanks Jerry.

Started with a Curve then shot a longbow for a long time, I recently got a 64 Kodiak for christmas, now the longbow collects dust, that thing shoots like a house of fire.

No doubt; a recurve for me. That being said, I would like to shoot a longbow. I think it is overall quieter, and I just plain like the looks of them.

My problem is in the grip. I wish my manufacturer of choice made a longbow with a recurve type of grip.

I guess Bjorn echos my experience..I can pick up either of (or others)and do pretty well.

I was weaned on the recurve and stuck with that for over fifteen years I guess. Tried to like longbows but, back in those days we had the choice of a solid glass bow (bear I think) and, of course the Hill-style bows. I tried to like the Hill bow but, little did I know at the time, the learning curve can be a bit long...I gave up before I learned the personality of the bow.

I became a lover of longbows when I got my first one from OL Adcock. I could immediately shoot that accurately - it was a great experience.

Now I am on a mission to go backwards into history - to learn the bow that Howard shot....I will submit to learning that rascal! Gonna love it even if it kills me! No, really I am looking forward to it!!

I don't think there is a big difference in accuracy using one kind of limb or the other. The proof of this is keeping everything else the same, which can now be done with bows that can use the same riser with both recurve and longbow limbs. For instance, when I change from shooting the same basic limbs in both recurve and longbow configurations on one of my Morrison Cheyenne risers, I can't tell any difference in how well I shoot. Even better proof of my point is that I could not see any difference in how well Rick Welch shot the Dakota bows he makes whether he had longbow or recurve limbs on them. I think Rick probably has a preference and knows what he thinks works best for him, but it was not obvious to me when watching him shoot. In case anyone does not know, Rick is a better shot than I am.

I shoot only longbows but I did have a chance to fling a few from a recurve.The recurve was a pretty smooth shooter.

Recurves have always just fit and feel better and thus shoot better for me !

I voted longbow because that is what I have shot the most of. All my longbows have been hybrids with forward grips sorta like recurves.

It really all comes down to the grip for me regardless of if its a longbow or recurve. I have a Zipper recurve that I shoot better than my longbows, but put a Black Widow recurve in my hands and I can't shoot it worth a hoot! GRIP!

IMO, the best bow is a reflex/deflex longbow of moderate length and with a longer riser. You get the smoothness, speed, and lack of handshock of the recurve while maintaining the stability, quietness and durability of the longbow.

It used to be that I could shoot my recurve the best, having spent the most time with it. But ever since I was given a longbow...I just can't put it down. Then there's my horsebow...

I guess what I'm saying is, if it's a bow, I'll shoot it and do my best!

If shooting 3-ds and set targets ,yes ,recurve. In hunting situations Longbow.

It depends. When shooting a Field course I generally shoot better with a recurve. When its cold and I'm in a heavy coat and gloves I do better with the longbow. I think I torque the string trying to get around the coat and I can't feel it with the gloves on. The longbow doesn't torque so it shoots better then.

However, the recurve has a better cast so I can shoot a lower poundage for targets. For example, my Hoyt GM4 at 38 lbs shoots the same as my Bear takedown at 45 lbs which shoots the same as my Bear Royal Safari at 50 lbs.
