You guys figured out the difference between zebrawood and GA.  I was about to explain the difference, then figured I'd better read the entire thread.

Every now and then, one can find some fine examples from the Grayling-era bows of Bear....although lots of that wood would have made plain 'ol 2X4s look exotic.  Still....there's some really great figured GA on some of the 68 Grizzly and 69 Kodiak Hunter/Kodiak Magnum bows.  The really nice ones are absolutely striking, but like I said, you're apt to find more plain figure than not.

Thanks for the pics and all the info on the wood. Those are some beautiful bows.

I think Felix from Italy has a couple of really nice Bears in Tigerwood (Goncalo Alves). I read somewhere that the dust and oil from this wood is an irritant somewhat like poison ivy

I killed a pretty special critter last year with my GA bow.  I'll have to look thru the pics and see if one actually shows the wood with the critter.

Though not a true rosewood,Goncalo Alves is also sometimes called Santos Rosewood and comes in a WIDE range of colors. If you want to see a lot of samples, click on  www.hobbithouseinc.com,  the top of the page will read "You are probably looking for one of the following": Your 1st choice is hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics, click on it and then click on G from the alphabet and scroll through many, many examples

First off - these bows DO NOT belong to me.  They are owned by a bowyer, Veriano Marchi, from Italy.  He goes by "knife" over on Rich's site.  I hope he doesn't mind me showing off his great old Bears!

As I mentioned previously on this thread, in 68 and 69, Bear made a few bows from GA.  A lot of it does not impress, but every now and then, WOW!

This is what GREAT GA looks like:

You have some great old Bears there, "knife"!  The K-Mag and Griz are top shelf examples of GA.
