In regards to tuning carbons,  lots of people talk of starting with a full length shaft and then cutting back a quarter or half inch at a time, till you get where you want......sayin "lenght" is the most crucial factor with the carbon shaft.....so my question is this: (im messing with carbon for the first time here....)
Of course,  to know where you stand with the length,  you gotta shoot the shaft....with insert and point....so when people are cutting back a little at a time and testing like this,  are they just not glueing in the insert until they hit desired lenght?  cuz I know once you "superglue" them suckers in,  your not getting them out,  correct?
Im assuming you can shoot em without glueing,  so long as you check to ensure the insert is seated in between shots? Yes?   Lemme'kno!  

I use hot melt, and when removing I just heat the point not the shaft it doesn't take much heat so the shaft does not get damaged. Or I just cut the nock end works also.

Cut the nock end.  I have just stuck the point and insert in and taped it.  If you do this you need to shoot into a bag target and push the point through as not to pull it out and lose it.

ya when bareshafting i cut the nock end...

I havent fletched any yet so perhaps Ill go that route........

I've pulled super-glued inserts by simply putting a field point on and then heating the point with a torch.   While heating and using vice grips on the point, keep pressure on the point until it breaks loose... It will occur instantaneous!   Super-glued inserts will come out!   Just be careful not to get the flame onto the shaft!

I asked same question and was told this tip: push inserts in w/ serran wrap? The thin plastic wrap for food.  Works great been using it for almost a month w/o any inserts coming out.

I'm with Rich in CO on this hot glue.

It took me just one time years ago to learn that heat and carbon are NOT compatible! Yeah, I only heated the point too. But, the end of my arrows bent ever so slightly. You could tell by rolling the arrows on a flat surface.

Never again will I try to remove or turn an insert in a carbon arrow by heating the point.

I tune my carbons without gluing,I use some saran wrap.I push the insert in with some saran wrap to hold the insert in snug.But you need to shoot into a softer target like a bag target.A target that doesn't grab too tight to pull the insert back out.I like to tune with my arrow wraps on,so cutting from the nock end doesn't work for me.I get my tuning done quick and easy with this method and don't use any heat on my carbons.Been working for me for the last 4 years.
