Thanks Colin I'll work on the technique every chance I get!

Grey Taylor

I just finished cresting these last night and clear coated them today.
Yellow acrylic paint on the crown and yellow Rit dye on the shaft. The Rit dye color didn't capture well on the picture, it's more apparently yellow in the hand.

Ok, that's better, the flash pulled the color out nicer.

Tie two birds together; though they have four wings, they can not fly.

When I did the Rit dye in alcohol I too used a foam brush but maybe I put on too many coats as they were a little too dark.

How much alcohol do you use with a pack of dye? # of coats?

Good info and lots of cool looking arrows.

I've used Rite Dye and alcohol on several sets try mixing yellow and orange dye in a mason jar (more yellow then orange) dip one of your arrow's cut off ends to check the color, add either orange or yellow to get the shade you need. I just mix small amounts at a time (maybe 1/4 Pack) it doesn't take alot to stain 12 arrows.

Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, Gen 27:3

"SHOOT STRAIT" - something im still working twards

Bjorn

If you mean wiping minwax on as a top coat, that will work fine but the stain needs to be fully dry, 1-2 days.

Cool arrows guy's .  Bjorn I do not think that arrow will fly right too light of tip and its not very strait.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.
Yip yipahooooo yipyipyip.

Beautiful arrows GT. Never tried the Rite Dye, but after seeing those results I got 4 dz. arrows ready to start the process.

Go Packers.  Beautiful arrows you have there.  What color are the fletching going to be?

I dump one packet of rit powder dye into a bottle of 90% rubbing alcohol. Some of the powder wont disolve (saturated solution) but you get nice deep/dark colors and just cap and save.
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

hvyhitter:

How large of a bottle, or in ounces?

thank you,

hvyhitter

Standard size (16oz?) at Rite aid or Wallmart. Using the 90% instead of the 75% is the key. I use wine red, dark forrest green, black and dark brown. I havent tried any of the lighter colors......... yet.

The un-fletched shafts I posted will be getting a yellow nock, green cock feather and yellow hen feathers in a 4" shield shape.
Thanks for the kind comments regarding them!

I have to admit to being a heretic who doesn't follow football
I had no idea those colors are associated with a team. I'm just putting on the colors requested.
