went out on a couple of pieces of public land today, diddnt see any rabbit but shot a bag full of trash. WHAT KIND OF SPORTSMAN TRASHES THEIR HUNTING GROUND ??????????
the good news is i got alot of shooting in and actually had fun i just DONT UNDERSTAND what my fellow hunters think sometimes

That's just it, no sportsman trashes their hunting ground.  Slobs thrash their hunting ground.  It simply boils down to two character flaws - laziness and disrespect.

The alot of trash round here too. But the one that annoys me most is the shotgun cartridges, especially when there's a pile of them where some idiot has obviously emptied their bag at the end of the hunt. I just don't understand the mentality behind that. The kids always collect them, hopefully we will never have an "accident" picking up a dud.

Know the feelin.Me and the curve thought we would spend the day in the woods yesterday.I saw way too much trash and paddled the canoe thru lots as well.Dont know about yall but my concience would'nt allow me to toss a gum wrapper much less the crap I see!

Its not JUST sportsmen, but the harsh reality is there are those that mascarade among us as sportsmen that have no issues with tossing a soda can or candy wrapper or leaving shell casings.

I have been picking up after others in the field since I was a kid, never liked to see it and figured if I didnt pick it up it would never get picked up.  Oddly enough I had this very same discussion with my son not more than a few nights past.  Hes more of a fisherman but its the same at the boat landing as it is at the pull off to state land.  His comment was typical of what Ive heard, "Why keep picking it up, they will just keep tossing it on the ground."  Of course my response was "You keep picking it up because they keep tossing it on the ground."  I know that seems simple minded but I do it because it allows me to sleep at night.


I live in the country and the folks in town even like to drive clear out here to drop off their old living room furniture and bedroom mattress sets and appliances.  I never thaught of donating my old couch to the wildlife or that the local deer herd might want a mattress handy come mating season.  Its probably a new conservation craze Ive managed to miss by not watching outdoor television shows. RECYCLING FOR WILDLIFE!

I don't call them sportsmen, but they often are people with guns.

I'm camped in NM right now and have already hauled out one bag of trash and will fill another before we break camp today. Included in the clean up were at least two boxes of shotgun shell empties. Piles of bottles, both plastic and glass that the "sportsmen" used for targets. Beer bottle tops and fast food cups.

No, they aren't sportsmen. They are filthy pigs, and I can't post what I would love to leave on their front lawns.

Here in Michigan it can be downright depressing with the dumping that goes on on public land. I was scouting turkey on State land several years back and almost every little two track in that area had a pile of shingles, appliances, funiture and other trash as soon as you were far enough back in where you couldn't see the main road. I called the DNR and they said they sometimes catch the culprit by digging through the pile looking for old mail or reciepts with a name on it. Was also told that over time with all the little local municipal dumps closing up it's become an unending battle.

Sad indeed.

Oh, I have a small woodlot a couple miles from my home that I am fortunate to have permission to hunt on.  Perfect for 1 to 2 hour hunts after work.  Last fall I kept finding empty plastic jugs of a product I think was called Deer Caine (?) along the road the woodlot is on.  I was afraid to pick them up and throw them in the back of my truck, as baiting is illegal here NY and I didn't want to be associated with it.  I ended up putting them in a black plastic bag and putting them in the trash.  They might have been from the neighboring property or just road side trash.  They appeared all season.  :confused:

I agree with the slob part! Aggervates the time out of me that some people don't care no more. They just throw thier trash on the ground, when it's just as easy to carry it out. At least we have a few good men out there that care enough to clean up. Good on you!! Jason
