I sweat something fiercely stinky in synthetic fibers so I know your dilemma. The only antiperspirant that works for me is Lavilin. Expensive but worth EVERY penny.

You can get it online or at markets worth their salt. Oh, and you only use it like once a week, so you don't have to keep it on-hand for long trips.

  I have um.....tested my wool longjohns by not taking them off and not taking a shower for a couple of days while camping/hunting.They(longjohns) still didn't have an odor.
I can wear polypros for two hours and I smell like a locker room.
"Right Wing Extremists"....has a nice ring to it don't it?

If you want to stay with synthetic base layers try some with silver made into it.  I have been using this kind of baselayer for several years now and it does not smell when you sweat.  The silver stops bacteria that causes BO from forming when you sweat.  A few brands are Medalist, Redhead, and XGO.  XGO is my favorite but it is harder to find.  It is made in the USA so that is a plus!

I'm glad it works for someone because I dumped a lot of money on "silver" under clothes that did nothing for me at all...

I am a big sweater. Medalist base layers with the silver in it has worked the best for odor control, in my case.

Put 4 marines wearing poly-pro longjohns and nomax crew suits under kevlar vests inside an armored vehicle for a week with no showers and you get a stench from the lower rings of hades !!!!!  I will NEVER wear poly-pro of any kind again, the smell never realy goes away after washing and comes back quick ....wool all the way for me.

the poly-pro or synthetics amplify your scent,I tried everything and gave up i wear wool by woolpower or ll bean. you can sweat in them for days and just hang them for a while and no smell,no clammy, stickey feeling when you sweat either.I used to do a tent camp for deer lasting 7 to 10 days and alternate wool underwear between two sets the whole time.wear one and air the other.

Unscented baby wipes go along way when one wants to clean up under adverse conditions.

Silver lined has worked for me, so has unscented Arm & Hammer. I like wool very much but it does help to have some fleece under it.

On the other hand, Merino wool is also a very good as a base layer.

Merino wool or silk and my wife will put up with me, synthetic and I can't stand me.

Smartwool and Ibex use a very fine grade of merino wool. (smaller fibers) Almost no itch or stink.

Ulfrotte/Woolpower or Minus 33 wool here. Both are soft and warm.

Be clean before putting them on and don't use ANY deodorant.  Clean with All Free & Clear (unscented) laundry detergent or similar.

Merino wool all the way!  I really like Icebreaker brand.  If you check the outdoors camping/running sites you can pick up the Merino on year end closeout sometimes.  I would never pay full-price for it, but $30 or so is well worth it.  Get the finer (thinner) grade Merino because it is very warm and if you get the thicker stuff it won't dry out very quickly if you do get it wet.

I ran quite a bit last winter training for an ultra-marathon and used my finest grade Icebreaker zip top almost exclusively.  I can wear just that top down to about 20 degrees windchill and be perfectly comfortable (while running), plus I could wear it several times before I could really start to smell anything.

Just make sure you hand wash or use a gentle cycle to wash, and then just let it hang dry so it doesn't shrink (same with synthetics actually).

I like the quick dry properties of some of the synthetics, but Merino wins hands down overall for me!

You use to be able to get this crystal looking thing called the"Rock" deodorant for hunters for deodorent that one of my ol hunting partners use to swear buy .He claimed the regular primos or scent shield stuff I used lit him up.I still have one and it looks like a clear rock that you moisten and rub with. But now,I dont see any one selling it anymore .Someone said that it is just aluminum chlorate I think and that you can get it at some of your better health food stores. As for the polyprop, when I use to be a novice mountaineer, after a while you would get it stenched up and then it just was done. And Ive never gotten into the underarmour stuff, cause I couldnt bring myself to pay what they get for it.The merino wool is the bomb and the peices that I have,Ive gotten used.Just hand wash with scent free, hang dry and wear and it wont smell up for quiet a while.Wool will still keep you warm when it is wet too.
