Has anyone watched the how-to video by Gary Davis on building a self bow - Rattlestick - "A Selfbow Tutorial".  Did you find the DVD useful? I've heard Mr Davis knows his stuff.

I haven't seen Gary's DVD but I know Gary and know he knows selfbows. I can't imaging it being anything but helpful.
Come to the Tenn Classic next spring and see Gary in action.

I haven't seen the dvd either but if Gary did it, you'll find it helpful.

I also know Gary and he knows his stuff and even better yet he knows how to convey that knowledge to others in such a way that anyone can understand it.

Gary does have a weakness but it's just for drink...lol Dr. Pepper that is!!

It's the only character flaw in him that I am aware of...lol (I fully expect to feel the wrath of that little statement)...lol

God bless,Mudd

PS: The smart folks will tuck that tidbit of valuable information away as material with which to influence/bribe (if you will) Mr Davis if they are ever in need of relying a small amount of subterfuge....lol

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

I have heard good things about it but I havent seen it. I spent a couple winters in Gary's shop building bows and if half of what he knows is on there then it is worth the purchase. He told me everything is on there that he teaches.

I bought it and thought it was very well done. I haven't put the lessons into action yet, but I think his DVD will help very much. For those into selfbows, I would think this DVD would be essential.

tree dancer

I have the DVD. If Gary doubled the price it would be a bargain.
The chapter on putting snake skin on a bow was most useful for me.

This is a great help to anyone who wishes to get into self bow building.
It covers everything from selection of and splitting a log, to putting skins on the finished bow.

Yes, it's got be good! He is the God Father of Osage!  :bigsmyl:

Plus the fact that Denny and Darryl, put it together on dvd for us to enjoy!

moebow

I just watched it again this morning.  He leaves a few things out (in my opinion) BUT it is a great overview of building a bow from the tree to the finished bow.  I highly recommend it!!!

I have built a bunch of bows, but in no way a bowyer, and I liked it.  It was a good all around on the topic of building osage bows.

Was he or is he the singer?? used to be a country singer that had a show where he hunted with self bows.

Would really like to learn to build a self bow but got too many projects going on right now.
